"Liberals" who say that in Sanders doesn't get the nomination, they will either not vote at all, or vote for Trump. wtf. Hate Clinton all you want, but her platform is not that radically different from Sanders' is, and if you fucking support putting Trump in the White House (whether actively or by not voting) I guarantee Bernie would slap you in the face.

I agree 100%. I don't like Clinton that much, but I will vote for her because I refuse to help any Republican, much less Trump, get into the White House. If nothing else, the Supreme Court replacement for Scalia is really important.

NAYRT, but I agree with you. Hilary Clinton isn't my top choice (although I have issues with Bernie - honestly, I'd go another four years with Obama if that were optional), but anyone's better than Trump.

I think some Bernie supporters just want someone against the grain, though, and they're the ones voting For Trump. (I do not think they represent all Bernie supporters, and I certainly don't think Bernie himself would agree!)

Yes. I hate when people refuse to vote because they couldn't get their first choice. Or people who claim there's no difference between the main two candidates because they've put all politicians in one box except for their single incredible exception.

they're like petulant children who couldn't have their preferred flavor of candy. except the stakes are so much higher.

Re: Complaint Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-10 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh actually no, I'm not going to vote for her should it come to it because I'm in a deep blue state where it wouldn't matter and I'd like to give the Green party a vote.

This entire thread is a really dumb generalization and ignoring how the general election does not actually work like a swing state in a whole lot of decided red/blue states.

Oh I have no problem with third party voters. It's giving up on voting at all that bothers me.

No, your reasoning is inherently stupid. Do you support masses of people who don't like Clinton go to third party because "fuck it it doesn't matter, she'll win anyway" - and then ultimately splinter the vote and cause the state to go red? Or are you the only special snowflake who gets to make a statement?

While I disagree with your reasoning, I had more in mind the "Bernie or bust" types who refuse to vote for Hillary solely out of spite. It's the spitefulness that I find childish, and the attitude of "well if I can't have it my way then the good of the nation be damned".

Re: Complaint Thread

My complaint is armchair political activists who complain about people not voting for Clinton without knowing enough about how the general election works to realize that votes in deep blue or deep red states do not matter and they might as well vote 3rd party to give the Greens - a super liberal party - a chance at more legitimacy.

No, not everyone who doesn't vote for Clinton is "putting Trump in the White House," please learn more about how the general works. Refusing to vote for Clinton in California would do neither jack nor shit.

Re: Complaint Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
So in other words: "I'm special and I don't have to vote for her because there won't be ~consequences~ but I still rely on the masses to actually vote for her even though I can't be bothered to do it myself"

Re: Complaint Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't like that, vote otherwise. Use yours to cancel out mine.

Unless you want to change the system so that voters may vote only in the way you want them to, disagreement is something you will have to deal with repeatedly.

DA

Where are you getting this "I'm special" bullshit? Voting is not a moral obligation.

Re: Complaint Thread

Ehhhhhh. You're not wrong, but I think the priority has to be on making sure that people in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Iowa do actually vote for the Democratic nominee, and everything else is secondary.

Also I personally dislike the Greens and would encourage voting for one of the even more left parties, although really most of them are quite bad too. The Greens just seem like they're full of people who don't have a damn clue what they're talking about with regards to politics and have all kinds of stupid-ass flaky individual pet issues that they want everyone to focus on. They don't seem to me like a constructive political party. But I guess Party of Socialism and Liberation isn't ultimately much better.

Re: Complaint Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I would support the swing states voting democrat. I would rather not and have the luxury of voting my conscience. According to the anon I think is OP this is for some reason horrible? W/e

Greens are the best of a motley bunch but I'd rather vote third party than not if it's down to trump vs clinton.

I don't like Clinton either, and I think she's pretty different from Sanders because she's much more centrist, but I 10000% agree with you nonetheless. It's a totally destructive viewpoint and I've seen it enough for it to frighten me. We do not need President Trump. I don't care if you're doing it out of spite or some misguided notion that it will help in the long run. Accelerationism is bullshit.

Re: Complaint Thread

Maybe they have looked at Clinton's past and think she's a fucking scary megalomaniac who thinks she can get away with absolutely anything, because she has.

Re: Complaint Thread

I shouldn't laugh. I'm a Sanders supporter and not a big Hillary fan, but honestly, if you're going to object to Clinton on the grounds of her being a megalomaniac but not Trump I'm going to back away from you until I can safely turn and run.

I really don't like the idea of Hillary as president, but using that site Isidewith.com (yes, very scientific, I know) I got a 96% match with Sanders and an 84% match with Hillary. Sanders apparently has such a one-track mind that he doesn't have much of a life outside figuring out how to fix social ills. Hillary is a career politician and I don't like political dynasties, but Trump is kind of horrifying. Plus I've only missed one election since I was eligible to vote, I'd probably jump in the ocean and inhale till I suffocated if I didn't vote and woke up the next day to President-Elect Trump.

One of those "liberals" here. The fact that you would put it in scare quotes says a lot about what "liberalism" has come to mean to the left. TRUMP 2016.

Re: Complaint Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
If you're supporting Trump enthusiastically, I don't have any idea what in hell liberalism can possibly mean to you.

Re: Complaint Thread

If you're bullying and guilting other people into voting Clinton, I don't have any idea what liberalism can possibly mean to you.
