Scarjo, Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joseph Fienes...the list goes on. They're all prominent actors who could have chosen not to play POC, but they did. In fact, I've never heard of a white actor turning down a role for that reason.

I wonder if it's an accomplishment, like gaining weight for Raging Bull.

Nah, it's called trying to stay employed as an actor. Seriously. You all seem under the illusion actors get to pick their parts, but mostly they're just ecstatic to get offered something. And if its something that will give them exposure, you bet your ass they'll take it.

I suspect there's a certain amount of ego involved. Even prominent actors would probably be reluctant to turn down a big role, and they may well look on playing a POC role as a personal challenge rather than whitewashing. Not accepting the role takes guts, a willingness to risk missing out on a good role, and perhaps a little more integrity than most people (actors included) are able to muster.

Ah, Mexicans are POCs again? Thanks for letting me know. I keep losing track of when I should feel oppressed or not.

But Cumberbatch's character is white in the comics. People need to accept that and get over it because that's not an issue at all. They cast a white guy as a white guy and that people find that controversial is disgusting. The secret talks about the ACTUAL bad stuff.

They were probably referring to when he played Khan.
