Threesomes, OT3, Multiples

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Who do you like OR what kind of situation does it for you for ships with 3 or more people?

Re: Threesomes, OT3, Multiples

To be honest there are two main conditions that have to be fulfilled for me to enjoy an ot3 or more type situation.

1, it has to be written in a pretty thoroughly positive way. Not that there can never be issues - but I think there are certain writers and readers who enjoy the idea of dysfunctional relationships and jealousy as tropes, and that doesn't work for me in general and ESPECIALLY not in ot3 type scenarios. Extremely posi only.

2, it has to be really well-written in general in order to overcome my basic lack of comfort with the idea and to prevent me from writing my own issues with IE self-belief, self-confidence, self-image onto the characters. It's a high bar.

Agreed. I'm super poly-positive, but it's not something that will fix what's already broken.

Your second point articulated exactly why I almost never attempt to read OT3 fic.

I don't have a lot of OT3s, but my main ones are Castiel/Sam/Dean (because it's hot and they all have interesting dynamics with each other) and Peeta/Katniss/Gale (it would never work. I know it would never work. But I still want it)

OT3, definitely. Where I can see the characters involved as loving towards one another without the annoying triangle drama bs.

Rose, Ninth Doctor and Jack was the first time I saw the potential and that was a couple of years before I was introduced to polyamory.

I love Rose/Nine/Jack. I wish we'd gotten more episodes with just those three.

I love threesome and OT3s. I OT3 quite a few ships, and I also can imagine some of my OTPs inviting in a third on occasion. I just really love threesomes. Huge kink of mine.

It has to involve one of the characters I ship with anyone (Steve, Stiles, Charles, Bones) and two or more other hot people. My standards are really low.

If it is a non-porny kind of fic, my standards might go up a bit to include a half decent plot. But that is the same for my non-OT3 fic.

Though I tend to only read fics with four or less characters (any more than that and sex scenes get confusing). Also, not a fan of "V" arranged OT3s. I want a complete Δ in my fics.

I like some OT3s that involve some kind of competitive situation, like Peter/Stiles/Derek.

For me its if I can see the characters working as a threesome and I seem to gravitate towards m/m/f OT3's as well.

It can't be just two characters liking the one but not each other.
I have to see chemistry with each person in the OT3 with the others.

And my favorite OT3 is Jack/Allison/Nathan from Eureka.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-14 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
adding on. Sometimes when I don't know who I ship a character with more, people offer an OT3 as a solution for me.... but it really doesn't work for for me because I won't ship those other two characters together.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-15 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I'm totally fine with a trio being a V sexually, maybe because of orientations, but I still need everyone to like each other and feel they are all in a relationship of some kind together. Otherwise, it's not really an OT3, it's a couple where one person has something on the side.

My OT4 is from Star Trek DS9 and it is obviously Garak, Julian, Miles, and Keiko. I know the actors were told to cool it on the Garak Julian stuff, but Julian Miles Keiko is almost canon. In the finale episode even neither Keiko nor Miles' kid believe he is taking up his new job offer because he hasn't talked to Julian about it. His wife and kid flat out believe that Julian has spousal veto, I love it.

If all the characters have such potential together that it feels like a waste to just ship some of them. The defining example for me is Princess Tutu, which gives a framework for Duck/Fakir, Rue/Mytho, Duck/Mytho, Fakir/Mytho, and Duck/Rue. I also loved how everybody in The Conformist has some chemistry with each other, although that one's a tragedy, so it turns out a lot more painfully.

Ennnnh. I'm kinda hit/miss for poly ships. (And I say this as a poly person.) I don't require a full triad, but I hate, hate, HATE competition and hating their partner's partners. I just want happy poly piles really.

Two people in a solid relationship discovering independently they have feelings for a mutual third and then deciding to invite that third in, either platonically-heading-for-sex or sexually, depending on the characters, set up, etc.

I really prefer m/m/m or f/f/f over m/f/m or f/m/f, because it seems like writers (unintentionally?) make the 'odd' sex out to either be the center of attention/affection or the one that's only sort of tacked on. I don't like either.

I don't like a lot of threesomes, but for me - Steve/Sam/Bucky or Steve/Tony/Bucky (or Steve/Tony/Sam or....well - mix, match, shake'n'bake all four of those guys). Or Jeff/Jared/Jensen from Supernatural.

I only have one OT3 and I feel kinda weird about it 'cause it's Mary/Colin/Dickon from The Secret Garden. I've shipped them since I was a kid and I always age them up now, but it still feels kinda funny because I don't normally ship kids.

All three "pairings" in the triad have to feel at least potentially viable to me.

I typically like V relationships, where two people are kinda of sharing the third. I have no idea if this counts as poly.

However I'm really getting into Bucky/Steve/Sam in a much more open, "we three like each other, just in different ways" kind of capacity. :D

Their chemistry in canon has to work, there needs to be some intensity going on with all three; I think the only time I've seriously been about the three is Scully, Mulder, and their boss.

1. My big requirements are that the characters involved actually have chemistry, that they all consent, and that they're all appealing together. That being said, I have a TF:RID 2015 OT4 in Sideswipe/Strongarm/Windblade/Drift.

Nothing. No situation will ever get me to like OT3's. Ever.

I consider threesomes one of my cast-iron kinks. I do have certain make-ups that I prefer - I vastly prefer M/M/F or M/M/M threesomes. This is a direct reflection of having no interest in F/F sex.

Almost every fandom I have been in I have had a threesome come up. Let me try recall a few:

Baldur's Gate: I did read a Keldorn/Anomen/F!Charname fanfic once.

DBZ: Radditz/Goku/Vegeta is the first one that comes to mind that I have read.

HP: Harry/Weasley Twins, Harry/Lucius/Draco (that was however a sad fic).

LotR: I am pretty sure I may have read a fic of Elladan and Elrohir with a third person. I know I RP'd Elrohir/Manwë/Varda.

Final Fantasy: Cloud/Sephiroth/Zack/Aeris was my one known OT4. There was a fic series that was Irvine/Squall but was heading into Irvine/Squall/Laguna. There was also an incomplete fic that was Irvine/Squall/Selphie. I was also a big believer in Cecil/Rosa/Kain but it really doesn't exist in the fandom.

Transformers: Well I did have a personal ship of Optimus/Magnus/Rodimus (G1 cartoon-verse) but it also didn't exist and the components were rare but not "rarepairs".

SPN: Wincestiel.

Hobbit: Hmm... actually, not really. Threesomes relating to The Hobbit only really happened in relation to RP.

DA: Daylen Amell/Alistair/Jowan, Hawke/Anders/Fenris, Daylen/Hawke/Anders/Fenris.

As for the aforementioned RP threesome... well RP is stalled for now, but it stalled just before one side of threesome happened, with both people knowing the third person would eventually turn up.
