It is the new thing. Your kink is not my kink and I must give you abuse and bully you out of fandom because of it. There has been a tumblr post going around recently over it. Someone posted a short essay about being a nice fan and tolerating others in fandom even if Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That Is Ok and has been getting abused and bullied by the self appointed tumblr morality police.

Is that the "Rules of Fandom" post? I seen the backlash of that. I seen the snowflakes freak the fuck out when tey got acused of being the bullys.

Eta2: ok I'm done being angry and doing a proper reading I'm amused because holy hell this is some new levels of reaching.

No one is entitled to a safe space, not even pro-pedo/non-con whatever ships

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, the last person is right. Yelling at people and harassing them over fandom stuff is wrong, but the wrong crowd of people IS using this "you are obligated to be nice to me" bullshit.

Newsflash, no one is obligated to care about you or say nice things. If you are going to put your shit on the internet then you better own up to it. Sometimes your ship isn't valid at all. Doesn't mean you can't ship it. Doesn't mean you have to die because you like it. But it doesn't mean people can't openly criticize you. What's wrong is when they threaten to kill you over it and actually hunt down and find you. But this has even happened to normal people for years! Doesn't matter if it's some casual yaoi fan or some jock on facebook.

The 4chan mentality that used to plague DeviantArt is right. Talk shit, get hit. If you put yaoi out there, expect homophobes. If you make a gay couple straight, expect a well deserved smack down. "Your triggers might be your own," but your work is also your own. Seriously, F!S is now Anti-SJW, and aren't Anti-SJWs always going on about how safespaces are the downfall of western society??? T_T The internet ain't no safe space, that's for everyone from child rapists to normal people. You are not entitled to someone else's respect.

Lol, that's the one where someone mentioned the mods thing for games and there's a freakin' 3-4 paragraph essay on why certain mods "ARE NOT OK."

Because, like, modding YOUR GAME to make YOUR GAMING experience fun FOR YOU is totes hurting others. Cause, like, anyone who uses certain mods, IF they hold certain beliefs, they will most likely not change their minds and deleting or barring them from getting said mods isn't gonna magically make them forget those beliefs.

I can understand side-eyeing them or blocking them or what have you, but actively trying to bar people from enjoying the game that THEY BOUGHT A COPY OF is super shitty, no matter how much those mods may not make sense in the grand scheme of things.

If you don't like the mods/find them offensive, then don't fucking use them. But, you have NO RIGHT to dictate what a person can and can't do with the copy of the game that THEY bought with their own damn money.

Big difference between modifying a game for your personal use versus publishing some really screwed up artwork for everyone to see. Don't make this to be something it's not.

I don't care if it's screwed up. If YOU don't wanna use the mods, don't fucking use them.

If YOU want to use them? Have at.

It's YOUR COPY of the game and YOU CAN DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT WITH IT.

So yes, I am making it exactly what it is: fandom trying to police how prople do their hobbies and freetime.

Self-righteous idiots.

Aaaand this is reminding me again why I am so happy not going near Tumblr. I know not everyone propagates this crap, but still there's WAY too much of it over there :-P

"It’s not about promoting fandom positivity anymore. It’s about promoting fandom safety."

...

Look harder

(Anonymous) 2016-05-16 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You must be new to fandom. This shit has been going on since the early 2000s. It's just growing as fandom becomes more mainstream.
