Honestly, I would probably really appreciate and respect this author for going out of their way to write the fic you're describing. But even so, they definitely should NOT be tagging it as containing a particular kink, unless they include additional tags which clarify that the kink is basically subverted in the fic. Fanfic bait and switches are super annoying and, IMO, pretty rude.

I wish I knew what the kink was.

Why though? The fic sounds like some obnoxious killjoy trying to guilt people who like something.

What sailorptah says, basically. Though now that OP has more clearly described the situation, I can say that in this case, the fic in question doesn't sound like the kind of thing I was thinking of.

If this fic author had written a fic exploring the dysphoria and general alarm a person would probably feel if they suddenly woke up with genitalia of the opposite sex, that would have been cool. But the way OP is describing it, it sounds like the author was entirely set against this kink and all they really wanted to do was to paint it as A Horrible Experience That Could Never Be Enjoyable or Sexy Ever. That seems pretty close-minded.

Yeah, a good subversion/deconstruction fic can be fun to read. With some scenarios I like the "horrifying trauma that the character needs to recover from" version as much as the "fun sexytimes where none of the potential problems apply" version. (Tentacle monsters, anyone?)

But tricking people who only like one version into reading the other, and then shaming them over it, is a dick move. Full stop.

Da

Totally agree with you, but how would you tag it? Trope/kink Subversion? Deconstructive fic? I know an anon above posted similarly (by tagging darkfic), but...what would be the best way?

Subversion, Deconstruction, Dark Fic, all of those work fine...but, look, you can always spell out what you're doing in the summary. That's my recommendation, whether or not you also craft the perfect tag combo.
