A traditional Lecter family recipe...

What is it that you don't like?

The series grew on me. (Fellow film version lover here.)

nayrt - I started watching, but didn't like how arty and pretentious it felt.

SA Pretentious is perhaps Lecter's middle name, so found it fitting. But if you don't like that, I see why you quit.

LOL true. And I always find "pretentious" a weird criticism when that's what they were going for much of the time. It grew on me, too, I was just sort of admiring but ??? the first time. But it's definitely not for everybody.

I don't think it's a weird criticism, tbh. It doesn't mean the show failed at what it intended, it just says that the person who disliked it, didn't like what the show wanted to be. I don't like rollercoasters because I don't like moving fast and the hills and loops give me motion sickness. That doesn't mean I fail to grasp the point of rollercoasters, it's just that if someone asked me why I didn't like them, that would be the reasoning behind my personal opinion.

Their reasoning is fine, I just think it's weird that "pretentious" is this huge storytelling taboo for some people, especially around here. It goes right along with "unrealistic" for a lot of TV fans, despite TV being inherently unrealistic. People like what they like and that's great, but there are infinite ways to tell a story, so it baffles me when straightforward/realistic is seen as automatically better than high-flown arty whackadoo, or vice versa. I just think of every story as a whole other world, whether it's set in this world or not, so I'm probably more lenient with them than some people. lol

I've seen very little posting specifically about the movie Hannibal during my years in the show fandom. If you're talking about all the movies (since that still is from SOTL) and Hopkins Hannibal in general, that's usually tagged as such. There are plenty of books/movies-only fans out there to follow. One of them is still listed as a mod for fuckyeahhannibal, for gods sake.

Try blacklisting things specific to the show. Blacklist the actors, specifically Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy. Blacklist Hannibal NBC and NBC Hannibal (a lot of people tag it like that). Hannigram is a big one to blacklist.

You'll probably still see show related content, but not nearly as much.
