Deadpool

I finally watched it. Anyone want to talk?

I watched it for the first time like two weeks ago. It was pretty damn good! Way better than I thought. But I am so glad I didn't so see it in theaters with my sisters. That sex montage would have been uncomfortable.

Everyone I talked to hyped it up so much that I guess I was expecting better. It was okay but didn't wow me. I agree about not seeing it with others. I was actually more thrown by that guy who went splat against the highway sign. That was a little more violent than I anticipated, and I didn't really enjoy seeing Deadpool break all his body parts against Colossus. I guess that humor's not for me.

It was okayish. I was more interested in the story of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus.

AYRT

Agreed. I was actually more interested in the evil program and what happened to the other forced-mutants and if anyone was looking into that and stopping it. I liked NTW a lot. Wade was kind of meh for me.

Did you like it?

I'm not sure. I don't think I disliked it but I'm not sure it hit right. A lot of the humor didn't land for me (and not the 4th wall stuff - stuff like farting at the old lady or the baby hand or whatever). I liked MTW but didn't really warm to Colossus.

I liked some of the fights. I was most invested when Deadpool was being tortured and I really wanted him to save that other dude and get the bad guy. But, I didn't really feel that the bad guy was defeated in an emotional sense. Deadpool doesn't "win" because the bad guy gets the last laugh, so to speak, and I found that disappointing.

I also wasn't too thrilled with Deadpool's decision not to let Vanessa know what happened to him for so long just because of his looks, and I thought he was stupid to think the bad guy would actually help him (or that he wasn't lying). Maybe if they'd shown Deadpool asking others for a cure it would've felt less stupid? I guess Deadpool just isn't that bright, which I didn't really expect (forgetting his gun bag again irritated me - I wanted to see him waste a ton of people because it felt like that was the promise of the initial setup, that we'd get to see what he could do when properly equipped).

I don't know. I think I'll have to watch it again to pick out the parts I like because the parts I don't like stick out more.

I liked it overall, honestly - it was fun and took a different angle to superhero movies, which I totally respect.

But a lot of the humor was kind of teenage-boy humor. Fart jokes and such. And while it played that it was making fun of superhero story tropes, it really had the same plot as any of them - victim-turned-superhero wants to avenge himself on the baddies, and his girlfriend gets kidnapped.

Also wish it had more gay in it, that actually felt gay and not like aforementioned 16-year-old boy humor but wasn't surprised at not getting that, either.

Overall, a very fun movie.

I generally like comic book/action movies but I am not a fan of raunchy comedies so this was a weird one for me. I guess it was more of the latter than I was expecting. I don't care if they recycle tropes and storylines. I'm in it for the characters, so the "unique" aspects of the storytelling did nothing for me. I liked Deadpool when he was being more serious, which appears to the antithesis of the appeal of the character. But I didn't hate it. I might have liked it. I'll have to try it again.

I didn't watch it until it came out on Blu-ray and it was fine? People hyped it up like crazy, of course. I admire what they managed to achieve on a relatively small budget but it's not a favorite for me.

I haven't finished it quite yet, mostly because I'm having a weirdly hard time understanding the dialogue which is off-putting. And the subtitles are fucking huge.

There are a lot of pop culture references and sarcasm. Maybe it doesn't translate well?

No no no, LITERALLY hearing and comprehending the words they're saying. I think the sound mixing is a little... weak. Reynolds sounds drowned out.
