I wish public domain wasn't a thing.

Why?

I'd rather see original stories or characters than yet another version of Sherlock or Alice in Wonderland. Also, I generally dislike when one thing has a million different versions.

I'm not sure how to explain it exactly but I feel like older stories should be left alone.

Do you think people should stop putting on Shakespeare plays?

Well, fair play to you, you're consistent.

Uh... you do know that people still do remakes of copyrighted things, right? (See: Marvel/DC universe in all their various mediums, Tolkien estate, reboots of cult favorites like the Ghostbusters, Mad Max, etc.) None of those things are in the public domain, so getting rid of public domain wouldn't change that at all.

All that getting rid of the public domain would do is make sure that copyright holders get rich and anyone who wants to create anything based upon those properties would have to pay on the nose.

I'd like to see just ONE version of Alice that did the books justice. I've seen a zillion different ones, some much better than others, but none comes close to the original books.
