I have the house to myself for the week. I got the ingredients to make borscht in the crockpot. Only my mother forgot to get it out for me. And I'm not allowed to lift heavy things yet, and the crockpot is big and heavy. :( And I'm not great with cooking so I don't trust myself to figure out how to do the recipe in a regular pot.

You do it just like you would in a crcokpot. Low heat, long time or higher heat, shorter time.

Honestly, using a crockpot for things is great if you have tons of time but can't be there to supervise directly, but if you're going to be home and able to supervise, cooking it on the stovetop will probably be faster, anyway. I assume your recipe is some variation of "throw everything in the crockpot and cook it for 8 hours". You can do that on the stove. Bring everything to a boil using medium-high heat, then turn it down to a low simmer (little bubbles rising to the surface only, not a full boil), put the lid on and check it after an hour. You won't need as much as time as you would with a crockpot.

Would getting an extension cord and let the crockpot cook on the floor be a possibility? Or is it jammed away in some cupboard?
