Everyone should be given the means to make a basic, livable wage, but they shouldn't be given free money just because they exist.

Disabilities aside, because if you CAN'T work that's a different story, I really don't want to have to work to support freeloaders who simply WON'T work, even though they're perfectly capable of it.

So is this a logical argument or an emotional one?

Also, if other people don't have to work, why specifically do you have to work to support them?

It's a bit more emotional, with a shred of logic.

I work in retail. I see people who have all kinds of luxuries (expensive cars, designer clothes, manicures, etc.) and yet they pay for their food with an EBT card. If they can afford to blow money on manicures and designer bags, why can't they pay for their food with their own money?

I know, logically, they more than likely have a job too, but then why use other people's money to pay for your necessities? It makes me feel like I'm supporting the friend who is fully capable of getting and holding down a job, but would rather mooch off of you instead because I, just by working, contribute to the public aid fund that they're using.

I know I probably shouldn't care as much as I do, and complaining about it on the Internet is going to do absolutely nothing, but hopefully that explains where I'm coming from.

So are you talking more about some people deserve EBT more than others...? How would you know just by looking at them? Nice things can be a gift or something they saved up for a long time to buy. And you don't know what kinds of expenses people have; with the terrible low wages that are acceptable in the US a lot of people cannot support themselves and a family on a full-time job.

Everyone being given a basic income that covers only necessities would include you, though. It's not like you'd be working to provide for others, you'd just be working to have more than the minimum. I like being entertained and traveling and making and having nice things, so I would still work, too.
