Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts
(Anonymous) 2016-05-27 04:18 am (UTC)(link)The obsession of amassing capital for the sake of amassing capital is pretty much the core of the problem, as it's the source of the growing inequality.
Creating new works could be easy with shorter work shifts and more work division.
If people could get a living wage in such situation and current overall productivity could be maintained without raising prices, it wouldn't be impossible for most people to have better life quality.
Maybe bigger improvements could be possible in the long run, as long as we
moved with the aim of decreasing inequality by putting capital into work and using that as a way to distribute it instead of having a top 1% having most of it and trying to increase it by cutting costs (by paying workers less) and increasing profits (by having customers paying more).
(I'm half sleep so maybe I'm not explaining this all well, but... well, I tried? And I'm aware things are complex and what I'm saying is an oversimplification of one of many possible ways of decreasing inequality)
Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts
How do you think we could go about guaranteeing a job for everybody? I'm not really sure what you mean by "Creating new works could be easy with shorter work shifts and more work division" but maybe like a New Deal-esque thing? I don't think that would last indefinitely. It'd be really nice if we COULD guarantee (decent) employment for every adult citizen, though.
Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts
Of course, making this actually work irl....
Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts
yeah, that seems really really hard to actually do...
Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts
But I agree that today we're looking at a situation where we have quite a bit of surplus, but we're still stuck in the idea that people have to work really hard just to make a living, and at the same time, throw a lot of stuff away. This system is not very good. People should not be starving when food is being left to rot because it's not "worth selling".
