I find it intensely weird that so many people are calling for Tony's head over the CW shit, while completely ignoring - or even applauding - the fact that in the same movie, Steve Rogers basically said "fuck letting other nations police their own shit or decide when they need help, I'm just going to storm in with my superpowered paramilitary crew and blow shit up whenever and wherever I want".

Which I guess is an accurate depiction of the American approach to the sovereignty of other people's borders, but it's still pretty damned jarring to see people hold up that attitude as unquestionably heroic.

Uh, except government having far reaching powers, particularly over "superheroes", is how they ended up with Hydra and how Bucky ended up tortured/brainwashed into being their tool. They say this in the movie itself. Steve has every reason not to trust the Sokovia Accords or the UN at all.

The reasoning behind having the Accords doesn't even make sense.

Um, just because governments with far reaching powers are fucked up doesn't mean that super-powered paramilitary groups should just be able to run around willy-nilly or does a country like Nigeria just not get any say when a mostly white-American group decides to storm into their country and accidentally help blow up some innocent brown people?

Yes, but the alternative is arguably even worse. Once again, see: http://imgur.com/GuZoK1w

Honestly, some of Cap's stans sound like neo-con Iraq war proponents, tbh.

('but Cap is apple pie and freedom, of course he should run head-first into Iraq and topple that bad man's regime, it couldn't possibly have any unintended consequences!').

That's not even touching how many people Steve's super strength probably hurt/killed when he was trying to help Bucky evade police capture.

You keep crying about Cap stans when there has only been criticism of Tony in this whole thread. Many people, like myself, don't even care about Cap, some us just plain hate Tony. But sure, keep demonizing the opposing team to make yours look better, nonny.

Jesus Christ, I haven't seen anybody excuse (or even really bring up) Cap's actions in this whole clusterfuck. These are some incredibly weighty things to accuse people of for simply liking a fictional character.

Thank you! I thought the same thing!

Where this parallel doesn't hold is that unlike IRL (I hope), governments in the MCU are demonstrably corrupt as hell. In Iron Man 3, the Vice President was working with terrorists to commit treason. WS showed that apparently HYDRA has infiltrated the highest levels of the US government. The World Security Council when it was active wanted first to nuke New York and then pushed for Project Insight. Apparently there was even more fuckery in Agents of SHIELD but I don't watch that. I did however see Incredible Hulk, where General Ross ran roughshod with the might of the US military all over Rio, a college campus, and Harlem. And now he's the guy running point on the Accords. I didn't need to see the secret prison to know that wasn't going to end well.

So while in real life I would say, "Don't trust the UN, they're a useless bureaucratic talkshop with no real power," in the MCU it's probably more accurate to say, "Don't trust the UN, they're probably HYDRA or AIM or fucking aliens in disguise for all we know."
