That... isn't whitewashing. These people have never heard of the magic of LIGHTING and Fenris isn't that dark skinned in the first place?

I didn't get that it was supposed to be Fenris.

I only recognised him because of the tattoos. His facial features are really off.

While he looks really weird like that, and while I strongly disagree with the side of the fandom that lightens darker-skinned characters to make them more palatable to themselves, knowing the DA fandom I can only assume that whatever outrage this image has sparked, it's disproportionate.

From the colour of the shadows it does seem like the lightening was deliberate, but sometimes people who have little experience with different skintones can go overboard with their highlighting. I'm not comfortable with passing judgment without knowing if this is motivated by racism or simply an unfortunate mistake brought on by lack of skill.

I literally couldn't care less tbh aside from the fact that his face just looks kind of...off for some reason. like, maybe a little zac efron-ish? am I crazy? I feel like I might be crazy

I was thinking he looks more like Nicholas Hoult

It's the nose. Fenris has a completely different nose (much longer and a completely different shape). The lips and jaw shape are off, too, but the nose is what makes it look so wrong, I think.

Honestly? I never read Fenris as anything but white (whatever that even means in Dragoin Age, he's an elf) until about a year after I finished the game and saw the want online. And I played him as the romance.

Fenris is such a dumb thing to get offended by whitewashing about. He's not even a human, he's an elf. His skin is tan, but even if he were human, it's a very racially ambiguous color, and his sister had lighter skin. I guess he COULD be a non-white elf, if racial constructions like "white" and "non-white" even exist among elves, but it's dumb to put a horse in this race. At least, it's dumb to get mad about a silly fanart in his case especially.

So in a series that has racism among humans, elves, dwarves, Qunari, and whatever the fuck else, everyone is freaking because an elf is a little less tan in some overly-bright fanart.

I don't understand this place man.

People in all fandoms need to calm the fuck down. I'm sick of it. I especially don't like it when social justice is abused so someone can be a troll or get outrage points. Using the wrong colors to make fanart, whether deliberate or not, won't set race relations back 100 years.

I saw someone trying to say the characters or w/e were darker skinned when the examples they used made it look like lighter skinned people in low light.
