I've yet to see this huge fallout about Civil War shipping. It seems like everyone is still shipping what they shipped before.

I expect the same will be said of XM:A. Most shippers ignore canon already. So a new canon het romance (or two), doesn't change their fandom routines.

There's been Sharon hate - but to be fair the romance was portrayed awkward as hell.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris Evans and that actress who played Sharon have no chemistry. And the kiss was forced into the plot anyway so that was just odd. I'm not a Cap/Bucky shipper but that would make more sense than Cap/Sharon in the MCU.

I'd say I want a Cap/Widow romance but the ship I DID get from Civil War is Panther/Widow. Those two would be a lovely pairing and would be a good foil for when the Hulk comes back from the Thor movie.

It was almost worth it for Bucky and Sam in the Beetle, though. Their "Yeah, get it!" looks were funny.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I wish there wasn't any romance shoehorned into it, period. One of the things that made The Winter Soldier so great was that there was no hamfisted obligatory romance thrown in.

This!

Seriously? Did you completely miss the great Stucky vs Staron battle that is still ongoing? Just search Staron on twitter or tumblr and look how offended people are by hetero Steve. Or what about the trending tag about giving Steve a boyfriend or the drama about making him a nazi before making him gay.

It's probably the worst shipping discourse I've ever seen in MCU fandom.

Oh don't forget the Steggy faction that feel disgusted that Steve ended with her niece and kissed her fresh off Peggy's funeral.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That's not really a Steggy thing. I've seen the same criticism levied even by non-shippers, as well as (the more expected) Stony and Stucky shippers. I think some people just find it super weird to hook up with your ex-girlfriend's niece, with the whole funeral situation being the cherry on the top of that weirdness sundae.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, I find it super-annoying that no one remembered that they were flirting as far back as Winter Soldier, long before he knew she was Peggy's niece. I also think it speaks well of his character that he continued the flirtation after she said she wanted to be known on her own merits and not her aunt's, seems like he's taking her at her word for that even if it may or may not cause issues for him.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
...no. He had one awkward conversation with her because Nat told him to.

It would be super weird IRL, but IRL your ex-girlfriend's niece would be much, much younger than you and you probably would have met her as a child. Steve met Sharon as an adult and nothing to do with Peggy.

(Not defending how it was shown in the movie, though, that was super awkward.)

AYRT

IRL your ex-girlfriend's niece would be much, much younger than you and you probably would have met her as a child.

Not necessarily. First, nieces aren't always much younger than their aunts. I've even known a couple of aunts and uncles who were younger than some of their nieces and nephews. (Wide spread of ages between siblings, so the oldest ones were married and starting families before their parents were done having children themselves.)

Second, exes come in all ages. If your ex-girlfriend is a decade or more older than you--which is certainly within the realm of possibility--then it wouldn't be at all unusual for her niece to be around your own age.

Third, people meet their girlfriends' nieces at all ages. Even if you were significantly older than your gf's niece, if you start dating your gf when both of you are 45 and your gf's niece is 30, then you'll only ever have known the niece as an adult.

Long story short, I think the weirdness of how it played out in CA is more the weirdness of hooking up with more than one member of a family, which is a bit odd regardless of whether those two family members are an aunt and niece or two sisters. Also, the funeral thing. :-/

My aunt is five years older than me, so...

Dude, I think that's basically universal with everyone who's not a Steve/Sharon fan (and even some of them didn't like it, too). It just comes across so forced - "Oh, Peggy's dead? That's so sad, here's your replacement girlfriend, Steve!"

The boyfriend thing lasted all of a day. The Nazi thing doesn't have anything to do with shipping and as far as I can tell lasted about as long as the boyfriend twitter thing.

Stucky vs Staron consists of a group of like 10 people fighting with each other.

Those are infinitesimal levels of shipping wars compared to the Tony/Loki vs Tony/Thor debate that was popular for a couple months.

And anything in the MCU is a slap fight compared to what the 'ship wars' you see in fandoms like Supernatural, Sherlock, Star Trek, etc. have.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait, there are ship wars in Sherlock?

I guess I kinda assumed that 100% of everybody shipped Johnlock. (I've scrupulously avoided the fandom for the past few years, though.)

It is more like infighting within the Sherlock/John ship. Some people have some very rigid ideas of how to non-problematically ship Sherlock/John.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear those people are gonna be forever cursed with unsatisfactory sex, if they haven't been already.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)

95%. Not enough for me to stick around long myself (I shipped Sherlock/Lestrade during the first season, John/Lestrade during the second, and then I abandoned ship). But I remember, in addition to those pairings, small but dedicated groups of Sherlock/Molly, Sherlock/Moriarty, and Moriarty/Moran shippers. There was also a subset of Mycroft/Lestrade shippers who really ran with that pairing and either included Johnlock as an afterthought in their fics or excluded it entirely.

It definitely seemed like more to me. Before the recent news flooded it with Nazi Cap complaints, the main stucky tag had a lot of posts about the het romance in CW. I wouldn't call all of it hateful (although some definitely was), but the noise was palpable.

Tony/Loki vs Tony/Thor

Was this seriously a thing? I'm in fandom and I've never seen a ship war between these two. Just a bunch of Loki wankers who happen to be Tony/Loki shippers going on and on about how Thor is the worst brother ever, abusive, evil, etc. But that's less to do with shipping than a small faction of Loki fans being cuckoo pants.

Aaaaand...now I'm kinda sad I missed this. *g*

Omg there were apparently little kids crying over the Cap is Hydra thing.

What a clusterfuck that is.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
there were grown-ass adults crying over it too, and i should know: i'm one of them
