(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)It's probably the worst shipping discourse I've ever seen in MCU fandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)Do you mean the conversation in their hallway while she was holding her fake laundry? Natasha didn't tell him to do that; the first time she nudged Steve towards Sharon was during their conversation in the graveyard at the very end of the film.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 12:36 am (UTC)(link)(Not defending how it was shown in the movie, though, that was super awkward.)

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)IRL your ex-girlfriend's niece would be much, much younger than you and you probably would have met her as a child.
Not necessarily. First, nieces aren't always much younger than their aunts. I've even known a couple of aunts and uncles who were younger than some of their nieces and nephews. (Wide spread of ages between siblings, so the oldest ones were married and starting families before their parents were done having children themselves.)
Second, exes come in all ages. If your ex-girlfriend is a decade or more older than you--which is certainly within the realm of possibility--then it wouldn't be at all unusual for her niece to be around your own age.
Third, people meet their girlfriends' nieces at all ages. Even if you were significantly older than your gf's niece, if you start dating your gf when both of you are 45 and your gf's niece is 30, then you'll only ever have known the niece as an adult.
Long story short, I think the weirdness of how it played out in CA is more the weirdness of hooking up with more than one member of a family, which is a bit odd regardless of whether those two family members are an aunt and niece or two sisters. Also, the funeral thing. :-/

Stucky vs Staron consists of a group of like 10 people fighting with each other.
Those are infinitesimal levels of shipping wars compared to the Tony/Loki vs Tony/Thor debate that was popular for a couple months.
And anything in the MCU is a slap fight compared to what the 'ship wars' you see in fandoms like Supernatural, Sherlock, Star Trek, etc. have.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)I guess I kinda assumed that 100% of everybody shipped Johnlock. (I've scrupulously avoided the fandom for the past few years, though.)

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)95%. Not enough for me to stick around long myself (I shipped Sherlock/Lestrade during the first season, John/Lestrade during the second, and then I abandoned ship). But I remember, in addition to those pairings, small but dedicated groups of Sherlock/Molly, Sherlock/Moriarty, and Moriarty/Moran shippers. There was also a subset of Mycroft/Lestrade shippers who really ran with that pairing and either included Johnlock as an afterthought in their fics or excluded it entirely.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 11:57 am (UTC)(link)Oh, I wrote a couple of Mycroft/Sherlock fics myself! I barely read anything for the pairing, though; I didn't really ship it, I just had a couple of story ideas I wanted to explore.
It looks as though the pairing's taken off a bit since the early seasons of the show, based on the number of fics on AO3 (858 at the moment.) It's still tiny-tiny in comparison to Johnlock, of course, but being within shouting distance of a 1000 fics isn't too bad.

I should take another look - even if I have to weed out the ones that are John/Mycroft/Sherlock, or those that have the Johnlock as an endgame, there should be plenty to read.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 12:49 am (UTC)(link)It definitely seemed like more to me. Before the recent news flooded it with Nazi Cap complaints, the main stucky tag had a lot of posts about the het romance in CW. I wouldn't call all of it hateful (although some definitely was), but the noise was palpable.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 01:35 am (UTC)(link)Was this seriously a thing? I'm in fandom and I've never seen a ship war between these two. Just a bunch of Loki wankers who happen to be Tony/Loki shippers going on and on about how Thor is the worst brother ever, abusive, evil, etc. But that's less to do with shipping than a small faction of Loki fans being cuckoo pants.

Aaaaand...now I'm kinda sad I missed this. *g*
