I think it's not a secret cause so many people feel as you. i think it was sort of deliberate. Jadzia was such a stunning woman, both in looks and character, a replacement was a problem by default. So, they chose someone very different. I dunno, Ezri sort of grew on me.

I think the problem was that there was just no way in the world that they were going to be able to properly flesh out a new character in just one season. I don't know if there were plans for more seasons or if 7 was always going to be the magic number, but I honestly think bringing on a brand new, quite literal replacement for a beloved character with so little lead-in was a really big mistake.

I haven't gotten to Ezri yet but Jadzia is my least favorite character of the main cast. I find her so boring, so I'm honestly looking forward to Ezri.

I always thought Jadzia was just this dull sex symbol. I was only sorry for Worf. The women he falls in love with tend to either die or leave him.

God, I couldn't stand her. I loved Jadzia and I loved Worf/Jadzia then we got this really dull MPDG, poorly thought-out character. I don't blame the actress; she had terrible material. And Jadzia died in the stupidest way.
silverr: Dax looking incredulous (DS9_tribble)

I don't dislike Ezri (though I did think the Bashir transference was a bit odd), but I enjoyed Jadzia so much I knew that it'd be difficult for the new Dax NOT to be a letdown.

I wanted them to get rid of Dax altogether after Jadzia died. There was absolutely no reason for the next host to stay on the station, since they have never been complete copies of each other.

Yeah, this, it really didn't make sense. To the point that it was kind of a big deal/seen as kind of weird that Dax and Sisko maintained their friendship through the transfer from host Curzon to host Jadzia.

The Bashir thing was weird and kind of retroactively ruined Worf/Jadzia for me (since it was implied that Ezri was acting on Jadzia's old ~ignored~ feelings for him), and she had zero chemistry whatsoever with Sisko. It was just a failure all the way around, and the show would have benefitted on the whole if Dax had simply gone on with another host back out into the galaxy.

I think one of their biggest mistake was to make Dax's new host a woman again. I think a male Dax would have had an easier time not constantly being compared to Jadzia (and constantly falling short because how could you not fall short next to Jadzia, both because she's great and because she's a character the audience has been loving for six seasons).

Not to mention how much more interesting the whole Worf storyline would have been with a dude being all "man, I was your wife, stop being a dickface".
