Presumably because they're not in those other fandoms, and can avoid the incest porn more easily because of it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
its now easier than ever to blacklist certain things on the internet, anon. there's really no excuse at this point.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in Supernatural fandom. Wincest is pretty much ubiquitous. But you don't see anybody threatening to call the cops about it.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
they just want something to get high and mighty over

before the plot was well know some of thought it was shota incest lmao

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
tbh both side make me uncomfortable

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)

Can someone explain to me how the whole "it's cartoons so it's not real and that means it's not hurting anyone" argument works? Live action stuff isn't real too. Both of those are only representations of the situation. The line dividing the two seems kind of arbitrary to me.

The people that say things like "it's cartoons so it's not real and that means it's not hurting anyone" usually apply that logic to live action fiction like SPN as well.

That would make much more sense but people specifically bring up the fact that animated stuff is animated all the time, not that it's fiction. Plenty of other people make arguments about all things that are fiction but there are still those who focus on the cartoons angle for reasons I don't get.

fiction =/= reality

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The same way people play violent video games that make them kill people yet they have no desire to do so in real life. If you already have a proclivity towards violence, or anything else 'problematic' in fiction, then it's something already there and not BECAUSE of fictional stuff like movies/tv/games/books.

I know a lot of religious people wanted to burn Harry Potter books because they thought it made kids satanist, does it? Maybe some of them, but it's not a result of the book itself.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I know for me the difference is whether the characters are represented by drawings or people.

Live action shows? Have real life actors/actresses in them doing real life things. The same reason the thought of doing anything with, for example, an actual child turns my stomach. A child character in a live-action series is played by an actual child. Which makes me go "oh HELL no!"

But when it's stylized like the Osomatsus or, say, Ciel Phantomhive.. they are human-like, but not actual humans. There is exaggeration somewhere that makes it more fantastical. So my brain applies the same logic it does to supernatural creatures like werewolves or vampires.

Aka those aren't real kids. They're alien beings who vaguely resemble human children.

Similar to this, the discrepancy between an animated character and their voice actor (and the voice actor's other roles) results in a lot of crossed wires in my head. Specific example: I have no problem with either twincest ship in Gravity Falls, because I know none of the actors are related... but I get uncomfortable when I see Kristen Schaal in anything even remotely sexual in nature because of her roles as Mabel and Louise even though she's actually 38 and not even remotely a preteen.

I don't have all the context but does anyone else find the idea of the fuzz coming in to break up the public incest meta party one of the funniest things ever? I'm stuck on that part.

It is kind of hilarious. I can just imagine the shippers squeeing about their ship and excitedly talking about their favorite scenes when the cops burst in.

Such a ridiculous mental image. You don't like incest, fair enough, but the cops probably have better things to do.

I don't find the weird blobby Matsus attractive in the slightest, but I spite-ship the hell out of them.

I find the antis for the Osamatsu-san fandom hilarious. The show has 6 adult dudes that sleep in the same bed, some of whom have canonly kissed. Getting all salty and self-righteous and butthurt over them being shipped is just like...lol, boy are you watching the wrong show.

Hahaha oh man. I'm not at all familiar with this show but yeah...most m/m ships have faaaaaar less canon basis than bed-sharing and kissing each other. If they do, there's NO WAY that people aren't going to ship it.

Huh, that's... some levels of pearl clutching. I'm going to assume this is baby's first fandom and they are still impressionable young peeps. Incest has been a thing since forever. I guess it's harder to avoid now because of tumblr platform where you can see everything in the tags.

And I mean, I could understand actual survivors who feel uncomfortable with stuff like this, but I can't speak for them.

And okay I was trying to hold back but the sarcasm it is strong in me:

the nypd have been notified about the meetup youre trying to plan

Oh yes I'm sure the New York Police Department is going to break down their door to their underage weeaboo reunion and arrest EVERYONE because they ship incest. News will go wild! Vigils will be held! An episode of Criminal Minds will be made where the underage weeaboo wearing Osomatsu masks will beat their poor defenseless and confused victims to dead with their Karamatsu body pillows!

I feel like the whole "the NYPD has been called" thing was probably a sarcastic response to the person whining about fearing being actually attacked IRL because...some people are openly disgusted by their ship? Some survivors being disturbed and annoyed at the prevalence of incest in their fandom?

It reads as entirely too hyperbolic to be a serious statement. It's basically the equivalent of saying "Yes, I'm outside your door with a torch and pitchfork" when someone's screaming about so-called fandom lynch mobs.

Ooooh, that makes more sense!

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
as someone who is into blmatsu (the fandom name for shipping the brothers), all i ever fucking ask of those who are neutral to the shipping is to be like "i dont like it but whatever". that's literally it. i get that the incest survivors don't want to see it but they could do this: not seek it out. xkit has a blacklist for a reason. there are multiple extensions on chrome and firefox to prevent them from seeing it.

i've lost 4 friends because of this anti shit and it's annoying.

though, it does make it interesting to note there's a lot of adults shipping the brothers and its the younger crowd who's playing the moral police.

I think it's a generation gap thing. Some people are old enough to remember when "You're free to do your own thing" was a principle people wanted to stand by, and some people grew up in a world where literally the only thing they heard as children was PRINCIPLES ARE FOR THE WEAK WE MUST DO ANYTHING TO STOP THE BAD PEOPLE THEY'RE INHUMAN MONSTERS

Those anti blogs sure are something else. Despite seeing them across all different fandoms they seem like such a hivemind. They spout the same stuff, same keywords, even the same blog aesthetics. It's like they aren't even different people. It's kinda sad because I know they are just parroting stuff they heard over and over from other anti blogs, and never want to think outside that. Even more sad when they ask if it's wrong to think 'this' or 'that', as if they have to ask permission because they don't want to risk accidentally being problematic even over the most meaningless shit.

Hopefully this is just a fad they'll grow out of. Most of them are young teens. Are teens really that puritan these days? When I was a teen it was anything goes and nobody gives a shit. I'm 26 now and just want to chill without seeing discourse over every damn thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, I can see how being a victim of incest can make casual incest parings really disturbing and uncomfortable. So I honestly just feel bad for them. :/

On the other hand...calling the police because some rando on the Internet ships two fictional anime brothers together is so fucking stupid I can't put it into words...lmao.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-13 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
What pisses me off is that they never think of the people who are incest survivors and indulge in incest kink. Like, wow, thanks for making me feel like shit. It makes me feel good to see consensual, fictional incest because at least my favorite characters got the chance to make the decision to indulge in it unlike myself.

Now I can't ship *M/F* incest because of my experience, but F/F and M/M is fair game, and, luckily for me, gay incest is much more prevalent in my fandom than straight incest. I simply block/blacklist M/F incest and I go about my fucking business. People know what is and isn't morally right, but they are grown fucking adults and it's not my duty to sit there and badger people until they stop doing something I don't like. I air my grievance and then I move the fuck on.
