Harry Potter and the cursed child

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently the plot of Harry Potter and the cursed child has been leaked? Here is a link: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/06/10/harry-potter-and-the-cursed-child-spoilers-here-s-the-plot-of-the-play.html

I for one am hoping this is a fake.

Alas, for it to be a fake it would have to be super elaborate - multiple people who got to see it in previews were posting recaps saying much of the same before that was posted

Urg but it makes no sense what so even as an alternate universe. Yes, I'm aware I'm in denial.

To think, all of that fanfiction nonsense could have been avoided with an over-the-counter muggle paternity test.

Or anyone having an ounce of common sense.

Really! And like Hermione wouldn't have thought of that first.

Is...that not essentially the plot of Back to the Future II?

Plus, the previews got good reviews...which I find difficult to believe they would have if that were seriously the plot.

Early reviews of Batman V Superman were fantastic. The first reviewers are usually ultra fans.

Yeah, that's my thinking. OR if the plot isn't better than it sounds. Because let's be honest - we're hearing a bare basics version of it. Maybe it works.

I don't know how to feel about this. I also sort of don't like the idea that they're releasing the book as a script, why not does create a book based on the script?

Re: Harry Potter and the cursed child

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well it is a lot cheaper just to bind and print a script already written. To novelize it Rowling (or Alan Dean Foster ghostwriting for her) would have to do a lot of expanding on the material already written, and a fresh print run would have to take place. That isn't to say it won't happen in the future, but right now it is cheaper to just print something already written.

It's batshit, but I so genuinely hope most of that is real.

But not "For Voldemort and Valor", because that sounds like shit.

Well I think the blood ball is also a candidate for worst sounding thing in that book.

oh god it sounded so much like badfic. I had to stop reading and hope the actual text will make it less terrible.

I thought in the books that time turners could only go back a few hours at the most- and the wiki seems to agree with me. Makes the entire plot sound like bad time travel fanfic I read in 2003.

Re: Harry Potter and the cursed child

(Anonymous) 2016-06-12 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes and in the books everything that happened when you went back in time with the time turners has already happened. There were no alternate universes.

Is J.K. Rowling trolling us? I mean seriously this play is pretty much everything the fandom wanted. I mean Hermione is black, the bad guy win in an edgy way and there is some sort of alternate universe time travelling thing. I feel like Rowling is sitting somewhere going: well this is what you wanted, fine here it is.

That... would actually make sense, in a weird way.

Draco is also kind of woobified, I believe. Or at least his son is.

From what I've seen on Reddit, that's the plot. Apparently the production is enjoyable despite the bad story though, so I guess that's a good thing?

Yeah everyone is saying that the acting/effects/sets/pretty much everything except the story is really good.

I'm 100% for this. Give me this wild canon fanfic I never knew I wanted until now. I love my time-traveling gay sons and I will defend them.

Hahaha the plot sounds like one of my telenovelas. First part sounds okay. Second part sounds Straight Ot of my Fanfics®. I'm sure it was more of a blast in the theater.

Albus says he doesn’t need any more mates—he has Scorpius, his best friend.

Oh my heart.

I've seen some stuff to suggest that it's bullshit, but idk. I'll just wait and see, myself.

Apparently the plot is My Immortal. I wouldn't know for sure, because when I read this I realized I knew almost nothing about the actual plot of My Immortal.

I'm not even a big Potter fan and I'm hoping this is a fake plot synopsis that was included in all the programs or something, as a kind of silly conspiracy to keep the real plot secret. But I can't imagine several audiences worth of theatregoers not spilling the beans.

I think it sounds like a harry potter novel so, shrug? I don't really get the hate.
