Because normal people with perspective are out normalling most of the time and they don't get so deep into fandom that they turn rabid.

It's only people who've got nothing else going on in their lives that let themselves fall down the rabbit hole of fandom insanity.

In addition to this, I think sometimes kids show fandoms can be worse than others because people get defensive about it being for kids and build it up in their heads as being super important because otherwise they can't justify being so into something for kids.

This is actually what I dislike most about SU fandom. It's a kid's show. That's FINE and there's nothing wrong with loving it and fandoming for it. You don't need to try and play it up that it's ~more important~ than that to justify your interest.

Or refuse to have anything else going on. I have an ex-friend like this.

This. People like that don't usually have anything better to do.

Exactly my point down below.

You look at the Tumblr blogs of some of these people, and you can tell right away they're trying to fill some kind of void in their lives, and the obsession gradually turns into a black hole that they try to pin their entire identity around.

It happened with the Bronies, it happened with weeaboos back in the early-to-mid 00's, and it happens with things like Disney movies/theme parks or video games.
