Re: What's a telltale sign that a film is going to be bad?

Tarantino is very love-it-or-hate-it. Seems to me the most common complaint is his slavish focus on dialogue. I also get the impression he's disappeared further into his own ass over the years. As of this year I've seen all his films save the last two and while I enjoyed them all, watching them in order has really laid bare how he's evolved as a director, not always for the best.

(Jackie Brown is far and away his best movie though.)

I pretty much feel that way. Most of the time I don't like his work (often because I've seen a lot works that he counts in his inspiration and I usually feel that his films step over the line of homage), but occasionally he's made things that I really liked.

It just seems sort of like a 90:10 ratio of "I'll be mad his movie got more attention than the source" to "Actually this is really clever and I can appreciate the cinematography". Really can't fault him there. He does have real talent when it comes to pacing and use of lighting and technical work.

I hate almost all of this work EXCEPT Kill Bill.

I kind of wish I could like it more because I love Uma Thurman. I have to admit I did find Inglorious Basterds pretty fun though.

We can watch Gladiator all day, every day. And when we are not watching it, we can listen to the music from it.

Oh please, you thought Captain America 1 was too slow, that's like calling Halle Berry too white. If it's not exploding every five minutes it's too slow, is that it?

Yeah. I don't like movies unless there are lots of explosions. That is why The Lion King, Gladiator, Mad Max: Fury Road, Schindler's List, and The Thing are definitely not my top 5 favorite movies.

You dodged the point like Herpy dodges criticism.
