Re: Favorite and least favorite fandom?

Of ones I participated in:

Favourite fandom: This is probably partly sentimental, as it was my first foray into actual fandom--but The Sentinel (tv show). Mostly on SENAD. It's where I learned about fandom and fanfic and slashfic. But I also learned about the generosity of fans--someone copied and sent me the eps I'd missed on tv (this was 1997--when downloading a picture could take hours) and they'd included fanvids. All on VHS! lol All they charged was postage and the cost of the tape. And overall it was just a very supportive environment. I know there were disagreements and shit, but it mostly wasn't overly vile or nasty. Probably because it was a mailing list? I dunno.

Least fave: The fandom formerly known as Top Gear but now The Grand Tour fandom. I have never seen so many people who refuse to acknowledge their favourite is problematic (aka Jeremy Clarkson). Not that Hammond and May are innocent by any stretch but they're not douchey to the same degree. And anyone who dares criticise him--regardless of whether it's legit or not--tends to get ostracised and treated like THEY are the one who's the problem. And being constantly told that it's just his "schtick"? Yeah. Whatever. I couldn't get over the number of people who defended him after he punched one of the producers. Those same fans felt BBC were in the wrong for not renewing his contract. And there are a lot of these fans who are watching the new new Top Gear and shitting on it. Well, given that they're only interested in CHM hosting it--and not in the cars--why the hell watch it and tear it down? Why not just fucking ignore it.

I'm to the point now I don't consider myself to be part of any fandom because there almost always ends up being drama of one sort or another. So I just watch my shows, read the fic, and flit around the edges of things. I do kinda miss it though.
