I absolutely loved this series when I was younger. It kickstarted my love of shojo manga. I used to save my allowance so I could buy all the volumes and anything Fruits Basket-related. I recently reread it and it didn't resonate with me the way other childhood favorites have. That made me horribly, horribly sad. I know I should get rid of all my Furuba stuff since it no longer interests me, but I just can't.

Have you watched the anime? I only saw it for the first time when I was older and I thought it was great.

OP here. I've seen the anime and I have very fond memories of it, but I haven't rewatched it recently.

Aw. Eh, just 'cause you're not as big a fan of the series as you used to be doesn't mean you have to get rid of your fandom-related stuff. If those items bring back any fond memories or hold a personal significance to you, it's worth keeping them for that reason alone :). And maybe someday you'll reread the series and feel that love all over again. Interest in a fandom can ebb and flow, so maybe the series just didn't click at this particular time for some specific reason or something.

It's up to you, obviously, what you want to do with your stuff, and if you do get rid of it, perhaps selling it to other fans might help make letting go of your fandom stuff easier. At least that way you know it'd all be going to people who would actually appreciate and treasure it. But if you choose to keep it, that's totally fine, too.

I didn't love the manga nearly as much when I revisited it either. I was always more of an anime person, and going back to both sealed my opinion that the anime is a vast improvement and the manga past the point where the anime ended is a waste of time. But that's the opposite of every other fan's opinion, so it's hard for me to even enjoy the anime without feeling like I'm liking the series the wrong way.

Eh, that's my opinion on pretty much anything put out by Clamp, with xxxHolic being a debatable exception.

As for Furuba, I read the manga at twentysomething just to see what the hype was all about. It read like a very standard, pretty predictable shoujo fare, and it just failed to engage me at any level. Buuuuut I've heard good things about the anime before, so hell - your comment here just made me order it *g*

Oh man, I hope you like the anime! I also suggest you at least try the dub (if it's the USA region release you ordered). I personally think it's better than the Japanese.

I agree with you about CLAMP, too.

Time will show! I guess it's somewhat of a classic by now anyway, so it can't harm to take a look. It's the UK release, but dub-wise that usually amounts to the same thing.

I wish the ants would go away so I could see any actual text on there.

Aww, I never read the manga but the anime has a special place in my heart.

Her eyes are MASSIVE at first. The art improves HUGELY by a few volumes in (by the end it's imo downright beautiful), but it ain't great in the first few.

The older I get, the more I find that this series resonates with me. I think it's because when I first read it I was a teenager and I only really identified with the teenage characters, but as I get older I understand and empathize with the adult characters better. But if it doesn't do it for you, it doesn't do it for you.

Aww, nothing wrong with keeping fan stuff from something you aren't into anymore, imo. When something is a huge part of your life for years and years, it's difficult to get rid of it.

That said, you get some closure/happiness from passing your collection along to a younger fan. :) At one point in my life I moved, and had to get rid of nearly all my possessions. Most just went to the library or local thriftstores, but I handed on all the manga and all my Japanese study books to a neighbor's daughter. I know she really got a kick out of them, especially since manga is so expensive that a lot of teens really can't afford to collect it.

Maybe you can't get rid of it because at least the merch reminds you of the warm and fussy feelings you had for the series. So treasure them, OP!
