She was way more tolerable in the finale (and she is my least favorite "good guy"). It helps that she has Tyrion around.

I agree, she needs people around her that help nuance her Taygaryan temper.

She's well on her way to becoming the villain of the story, and I'm pretty sure that she's going to give Cersei a run for her money.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I can't wait to see those two clash, though.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
lmao sorry but the main villain of the story is an ice zombie and his army

or have you not been paying attention? the whole thing is leading to a fantastical conclusion rather than a human conclusion

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Every season has had a main villain that is not the ice zombie, he's just been waiting there on the background for the finale. Besides, he's not really an evil villain in the same way that the humans have been. He is more like a force of nature (winter) killing everything in his path, and not going around torturing, raping and flaying like the humans.

idk what grrm is going to do with dany in the books, but in the show, i think it's abundantly clear that cersei will be the villain in s7. daenerys is terrifying, but she does have redeeming qualities, and apparently people to pull her back from the brink. cersei has absolutely nothing left going for her, nothing to lose, and she doesn't care what anyone says anymore.

and no, he's definitely evil. there's brutal, casual cruelty in what he and the others/white walkers do to the living. they want to extinguish all life. their motives are simplistic, and that's why it's not very satisfying to us to call them villainous, but a spade's a spade.

only saw the first season but she was already awful in that.

IKR? She totally should have tried to unite that Dothraki army with rhetoric about peace and fairness.

Yeah, they would have been really receptive to a pacifist message. :P

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that's exactly what the secret says, peace and fairness. Because there is no middle ground between being a milksop and murdering the people you're trying to rule. Good spot, nonny!

I feel like you don't really get Dothraki culture. Have you not watched the show?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I have. I've also noticed that Dany's presence has served to change some key things about Dothraki culture, which indicates to me that they don't necessarily require wholesale murder to win their loyalty. Dany's promising something she can't (and really shouldn't) deliver. Either the Dothraki are her people and she'll sacrifice the people of Westeros to their bloodlust and undermine her own ability to hold the Iron Throne, or she plans to rally people to her cause and rule Westeros and somehow backpedal on her promises of killing and pillage to the Dothraki. Which approach is the smart approach, do you think?

They were like 99% united before that speech. All that speech did was make the Dothraki think that she was going to be pillaging Westeros. Which is the opposite of everything else she has been saying.

All that speech did was make the Dothraki think that she was going to be pillaging Westeros.

That's my point. I don't think they would have rallied behind her if she hadn't been all PILLAGE AND PLUNDER RAWWWWRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt, but if they're now united behind her, and they go in and pillage and plunder, can she really say that she didn't instigate that?

Isn't the fact that she's a terrible ruler the entire point of her character?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's what's demonstrated in the books as well as the show, but a lot of people don't necessarily get it.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I never liked her much at all (though more in the books—the acting kills a lot, imho), and I never thought she'd make a great ruler. But then nobody around really qualifies for that job. She may not be the worst option? Tyrion is certainly an asset to her cause and her … abilities, maybe. But yeah,I have the feeling she's designed to turn out no or only little less mad than her father. Runs in the blood, doesn't it ;-)

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
the showrunners debunked her being mad in an inside the episode feature, so you can chalk that up to bad writing.

idk about the books but i honestly doubt it. she's violent, not batshit insane.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Welp, end of the series is going to suck for you.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the 'tear down their stone houses' part was kind of dumb, because, Dany, don't you want to LIVE in at least one of those stone houses your ancestors built?

My ideal end would have her ruling in the south and Jon as King in the North (and considering that we basically have 100% confirmation of R+L=J now, ideally he could marry Sansa and she would be Queen in the north and Lady of Winterfell.) But I don't know how well that would work out since I'm pretty sure she intends to conquer the ENTIRETY of Westeros and also she is way better at conquering than at ruling. Although Tyrion being her Hand would go a long way towards mitigating her inexperience as an actual ruler.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
I reckon she gets the throne at the end of season 7, and spends season 8 leading the fight against the ice zombies. She then realises she's a conquerer rather than a ruler. She comes to the conclusion (or is helped there by people she trusts) that she'd eventually become like her father, and cedes the throne to other more local arrangements (Iron Islands, The North, Dorne and The Rest, or something).

Certainly her internal fight to avoid going crazy-Targaryen is going to be a final season plot point.
