Well, not fitness.

So, not scabies...yay? Don't get me wrong: Very happy to not be infested with bugs, and I hope this creme I got clears everything up, but it also means there's not a definite "this is the problem/cure!"

Could be stress though. Which might also account for my 140/90 blood pressure. It's been inching up for a little bit (from really good 118/64s and the like) but that's a new high that has me worried. Is hypertension like diabetes: A disease that once you've got it, there's only managing it from there on?

That's always a double-edge sword. "It's not X (yay!) but we don't know what it is, so we can't fix it." :(

Diabetes is not a "once you've got it there's only managing it" disease. Most diabetes responds well to weight loss, in that most people who develop type II diabetes as a result of overweight or obesity will no longer have diabetes once they reach a healthy weight.

Hypertension may follow suit if it is also the result of overweight or obesity, and at the very least is shown to improve blood pressure in individuals with hypertension.

And my doctors have told me that even once you have your diabetes (type 2) under control, you're still considered to be diabetic. I guess they were wrong?

Re: Health and Fitness

They're not wrong so much as relying on some outdated ideas about diabetes.

It used to be that they'd classify you as diabetic or prediabetic according to blood glucose tests and a1c value. These days we're finding out that the assumed normative values are not actually as strict as previously thought, and that people with say... a >6.0 a1c value may not actually display any clinical symptoms of diabetes. In fact, they may show stable blood glucose readings and attempting to control their condition with medication leads to unstable fasting glucose and hypoglycemia.

So yeah... not wrong, but it's not that black and white as "once diabetic, always diabetic".

This week I'm working 10.5 hour days to make up the hours I missed on July 4th. I can't motivate myself to actually walk on my treadmill today (I forced myself to do 15 minutes on it yesterday). Same ol' stuff otherwise.

Re: Health and Fitness

(Anonymous) 2016-07-07 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
How fast are you going if you only do 15 minutes? I used to aim for 4 miles an hour, which isn't super fast but I'm short legged and fat, and be happy if I managed 5 miles an hour by occasionally jog trotting. Around about the time I was seeing discernable weight lost and stamina gained, the treadmill started making wheezing noises that I couldn't figure out how to fix and I stopped. But I don't know what's considered respectable speed on a treadmill.

I'm short-legged and fat, too, and 4 miles an hour is so out of my range of current possibility. I feel like I get a pretty well depleted working up to and down from about 3 miles an hour over 25-30 minutes.

Your wheezing you couldn't figure out was probably from overdoing it.

SA
Plus I got the feeling Kaijicendr's 15 minutes was not the standard, just what they made themselves do when they'd rather do zero minutes on it.

yoga mat came in! woo

so I have it laying on the floor and I feel the need to use it every time I walk in the room. I like it, I like it a lot

also, I have been eating apple sauce and lots of fruits and veggies. takin away meat feels sooooo good, honestly. I just get my protein from greek yogurt and eggs. it's really the best.

I've been stayin away from carbs too. I had some today though, and blegh. I feel like I get random cravings for bad things when I have such carbs (bread, pasta, cereal, etc) in my system and it ain't fun

I'm battling with my insurance again. I've confirmed that they have my correct address on file, and they keep saying they'll send me an insurance card, but it keeps not arriving. I have a foot problem that needs treatment NOW, but I'm having trouble getting an appointment without a card.

I'm a pain monster but fairly determined to resume regular gym-going (got interrupted by travel and also pain), if only bc I've got issues dot com and if I don't go I get stupid down on myself.

My health is in shambles as always.

I'm experiencing a gentle, pulsing pain on a small spot in my chest. It kind of pulsates up my shoulder sometimes. It's not unbearable or anything and I suspect I might have strained/pulled muscles while picking up several 70-80 lb dogs from floor to about chest high this week. If it doesn't go away, I might end up going to a doctor and seeing of they can prescribe something.

So, nothing too serious and mostly just annoying. :\

Although a couple of days ago I managed to use the push mower to mow the entirely of the dog yard (which spans the entire front of my house) without struggling, which I was pretty proud of. :D

The pain in your shoulder that you experience sometimes is likely referred pain from whatever is going on in your chest. Essentially, feeling the discomfort from the source of your injury in another place in your body. This phenomenon is pretty common with chest injuries.

You're probably right and you've just pulled a muscle in your chest, but obligatory reminder: if you begin to experience any other symptoms (dizziness, numbness, shortness of breath, nausea, irregular heartbeat) or the pain intensifies, call 911 right way.

Oh yes, I made sure to look up all the symptoms of heart attacks and also to look up what could be causing a small pain point. I didn't want to do too much research since that way lies madness and way too much self-diagnosis but I wanted to know what to watch out for. Just in case.

Also, thank you for your comment on my other comment about my mom. I wanted to say something but I was getting upset and now I'm trying my best not to think about the whole thing. It's inevitable and I need to enjoy the now rather than worrying so much about the future.

lol yes. Don't look at WebMD. That's a recipe for nothing but anxiety and terror.

I hope you manage to find some peace re: everything else. It's hard to say everything will be okay when everything will definitively not be okay, but I guess that's no reason not to try to find beauty in things. Life sucks a lot of the time. I just wanted to let you know I empathize.

gym question

(Anonymous) 2016-07-06 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Been going to a gym where I also shower and am at a loss as to what to do with my sopping wet shower puff. My flip-flops, I've started using my locker padlock to attach them to the straps on my bag, but something about that doesn't seem like it would work with a puff.

Would it be fine if I rang it out and did that, or should I just make the conscious effort to not leave it in my bag overnight even if that hinders the "grab and go" convenience that's really helped me stick to a routine for a few weeks?

Re: gym question

(Anonymous) 2016-07-06 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Bring an empty plastic bag to stick it in?

Re: gym question

(Anonymous) 2016-07-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
doesn't seem like that would help it dry out, though...

Re: gym question

(Anonymous) 2016-07-07 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
If it's just the shower puff, can you maybe have 2 that you alternate? Stick the wet one in a bag for the day, hang it up overnight and let it dry over the next day while using the spare one. You can sanitize the wet one with boiling water every night before hanging it up too.

I went to the dentist today for a checkup/cleaning. I like my dentist and hygienist but the hygienist is a Chatty Cathy and it's exhausting. And she doesn't just chat while she cleans your teeth, she stops cleaning and just talks and talks. And I just lay there wishing she'd STFU and finish cleaning. I don't even mind her being so talkative, if she'd keep on working thru it! It took an hour and 15 minutes when it should take 45. Sigh.

nothing worse than talkative dental hygienists. like talkative barbers, except there's literally stuff in your mouth
