Yeah, when I hoped Remus would get more of a role, I did not have the mess that was DH in mind.

It just seems so clear JKR wrote more than she could chew, cut out a bunch, and kept what still fit in. Except then it didn't make any sense.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I pretty much agree. One of those things I just choose to reject from my personal canon.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I am literally the only person I know who doesn't have *issues* with HBP and DH.

I thought the Remus/Tonks character arc was fine and don't really get why everyone else is so ragey and depressed and critical of JKR over it.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved it in HBP, so I'm half with you there?

Although I wouldn't say I'm even ragey with JKR over it in DH. I just think it could've been written better. (But OTOH I think people... wanted Remus to be someone he wasn't ever written as. He isn't this sweet, collected, downtrodden guy. I love Remus, but he kinda hid that Sirius was an animagus back in DH...)

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought his attempt to cut-and-run and his resulting temper tantrum with Harry in DH gave him more depth and was perfectly in line with the character we'd seen up to that point. He was an understandably tormented and insecure man and didn't always make the best decisions.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
i liked Remus Tonks too! i just wanted to see more of it, but i guess there wasn't enough time to deal with it.
is there any good fill in fic?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I never sought out any R/T fic, sorry! I just didn't take issue with the ship was written in canon.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Check out rt_morelove on livejournal. LOTS of great R/T fic.

I wasn't impressed with how it was handled, mostly because I didn't feel proper buildup for anything, but what annoyed me the most was that both he AND Tonks were killed off that way, just to make another orphan. It felt like JK making sure to off the entire previous generation, and I didn't appreciate it. Though after Sirus, I was already a little bit inured.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's the standard criticism I've heard.

DH is by far my favorite of the books.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Remus is a punk-ass little motherfucker and he shouldn't be

Also, I liked them, so it made me sad that they died

Also, Tonks should have got to do more badass stuff

I think I wrote this secret in my sleep

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I still think David Thewlis was miscast in that role.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He was a spineless douchebag who played favorites with the students and I'm glad he got killed off.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
We're not talking about Snape today. Come back tomorrow. :P

He treated most students well and I never saw him mistreat a student who wasn't "one of his favorites"IIRC he even acted decent with Malfoy.

It says something awful about you that you're glad he died when he didn't do anything ,especially since he had a child. Fuck you

I feel you, he was my favourite and I was so sad at how his story ended. :(

She didn't apologize because she thought she'd made a mistake. She was just apologizing in the 'sorry, it hurt me as an author to do it too' manner of speaking. So I don't know if you're really vindicated? I mean you can still view it as a misstep, but no, she wasn't saying that she would change it in retrospect or that she regrets doing it.

OP

(Anonymous) 2016-07-10 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually didn't know that - I do stand by his death being a misstep IMO, though.

I like this font. It's like an "nth generation photocopy" font.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-11 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, her apology just annoyed me. It seems disingenuous to say you're sorry that THE THINGS YOU WROTE YOURSELF AND HAVE 100% CONTROL OVER happened.

I would have preferred it if she wasn't still giving a reason that makes no sense.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I had a hunch he would die at the end. And every mistake he made (especially that tantrum in front of Harry) made me like him more. He was more human after that.

But what I still can't forgive is that he died off-screen. He deserved a death scene, even one as fast as Fred's.
