As a general rule, if you're purchasing something from that culture then it is not appropriation. Going to Japan and eating Japanese food is not appropriating.

Think of appropriation like plagiarism. If you go out and buy a photography book then you haven't stolen anything. If you go on Google, grab a photo, turn it into your photography teacher and say "I took this picture." then you're appropriating their photo for your own benefit.

So just don't go writing down the lyrics to the songs and go "I totally made this myself. This is my poem. I wrote it."
