2: That's a really good cosplayer. Wow.

5: I keep seeing these comments, and I just have to wonder; how do you know? All the people I know do buy the stuff they like (or at least what they can afford of it).

Also, Japanese companies can't stay afloat without foreign business? Where did you get this information? (If you say that it stands to reason I will laugh in delight.)

30: That's funny, I could have sworn that the biggest Kakashi ship was Kakashi/Iruka. You know, one of the other teachers?

43: Where's your sense of solidarity? I know it's a foreign concept to a lot of Americans, but really. Your union (if you have any, I hear they're in a sorry state in the U.S.) should go on sympathy strike. In fact, all the related worker should; that should end the strike pretty quickly!

44: Well, maybe you're bi? Is this really such a big problem?

So? Just becuase Kakashi/Iruka is the most popular Kakashi pairing out there doesn't mean that other pairings are non-existant.

Most of the time I see Kakashi fans (usually yaoi fangirl fans) pair him with Naruto, Sasuke, and even Neji, and constantly making jokes or refrences of Kakashi being a pedophile. I don't care if they pair him with Naruto/Sasuke, but calling him a pedophile (and calling him a "cute pedophile at that") is annoying as hell.

Some people even INSIST he's a pedophile. I wish it would end already... it's one of the many reasons I stay away from Naruto fandom.

I'd seriously perfer that they stop treating Kakashi that way and maybe write fics/Draw fics where he's paired with a legal aged Naruto, Sasuke, etc

It was the "always" that had me surprised, really. I have sen him paired with a student once in a while, but it's been rare where I've been looking for fic (i.e. pretty much everywhere except for ffn).

I have honestly never seen him called a pedophile seriouisly, especially not a "kawaii" one. And insist he is one? That's just... strange.

I'd seriously perfer that they stop treating Kakashi that way and maybe write fics/Draw fics where he's paired with a legal aged Naruto, Sasuke, etc

Legal where, exactly? But yeah, I have a serious student/teacher squick, so I'd prefer them to be paired up after they're no longer his students, at least.

I know it's a foreign concept to a lot of Americans, but really.

...you know, as a country, we're comprised of a bizillion different cultures, nationalities, races, etc etc. If there weren't a good helping of solidarity in the country, the USA wouldn't exist.

Re: 2, 5, 30, 43, 44

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I hear it's pretty much every man for himself over there (one of my American friends told me once that he'd never want to be a part of a general health insurance system where the medical care is paid for with taxes because he'd never want to pay for somebody elses medical needs). Might just be a skewed impression from the information I've got though; one generally hears the bad news from other countries, I suppose.

Re: 2, 5, 30, 43, 44

[identity profile] tulleskirt.livejournal.com 2008-04-02 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, there's definitely a feeling of "you're on your own" (though the democrats would contest that) but it's not really in a negative way...if that makes sense. The origins of the country breed a general distrust of the government alone, but it's also the fact that we run on capitalism and the idea of the "American dream" and all that--that if you come here, we're going to give you an equal starting point but it's up to you to make what you will with it. Protestant Work Ethic and all that jazz, and some people do see it as a bit vicious but it's worked well enough that most people support it. The health care thing is an intersting issue though, lots of people split on that one here. :O

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that doesn't sound like there's room for much solidarity, you know.

I know what you mean about Protestant work ethic though; even though we're the least (or second least? I forget) religious country in the world (I think we're one of those post-religious countries), we were Protestant for almost five hundred years, and a very high percentage of the population is working (due also to an almost non-existance of housewives). But we also have a history of strong unions.

, but it's also the fact that we run on capitalism and the idea of the "American dream" and all that--that if you come here, we're going to give you an equal starting point

Yes, I know, but if you'll forgive me for saying this, it doesn't sem like a very equal opportunity situation from the outside. It's sort of, like the power belong only to those with money? And if you're not born in a family with anough money, you can't even choose which career you like, since you have to pay for university/college.

But I live in such a different country, and I've hardly got a balanced impression of the states, as I've not studied it that much. It's mostly what one hears on the international news, and on some programmes (and I'm trying to remember that most American families probably don't behave like they do in the sitcoms. XD)

Re: 2, 5, 30, 43, 44

[identity profile] tulleskirt.livejournal.com 2008-04-03 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I totally get what you mean--I feel like I never get an impression of a lot of countries beyond TV and I'm loathe to talk about them. XD

But anyway, I know it looks like that from the outside and many Americans agree, but...well, I come from an immgrant family and we've done pretty well for ourselves here. XD The rich-poor gap is overblown to some degree--it's definitely there, but the vertical mobility in the country is still very much around. Our immigrants from Asia, India, Africa and parts of the Middle East, for example,(I work in the English-for-speakers-of-other-languages classes in my school, so forgive the rambling) come in, oftentimes with few connections or cash and do very well, or random splinter groups like Cubans. And as a high school senior with a 50,000 dollar tuition facing her...our colleges deeefffinitely need to come down in price, but it's far from impossible to go, there're literally thousands of scholarships around, student loans, and community college programs that are drastically reduced in price. College is way too expensive right now, though, yeah, and people sometimes put it off so they'll be able to pay for it later. Thank god for in-state rates, I say, though I'm not taking advantage of them myself. >.>

I guess that's where the solidarity comes from...more of a thankfulness to the country than anything else. Though given our current immigration woes, that sure ain't a consensus. XD

I suppose that to me it seems like a country of extremes, in a way. I've grown up with a sort of "safety and decent life for everyone" philosophy, where cooperation in general has always been important.

Not that I think my country is perfect - far from it - but it's... comfortable. And convenient. A good base to work from, so to speak, heh.

43 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-04-02 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, I'm a production hire. Heck, I'm not even sure if programmers bother having a union. I'm coming in waaaay the heck at the bottom of the industry, being a recent college grad, so I've got pretty much nothing to work with here. Besides, the whole point is that there isn't any work for me to do in the first place.

I like sticking it to The Man as much as the next person, but this is ridiculous.

Well, that's why we have unions; to help those without power, and to create some leverage against the powerful companies! But I have heard that they hardly exist in the States. It really is nice, you know, to have a big organisation behind you when you get a bad deal.

I like sticking it to The Man as much as the next person, but this is ridiculous.

I have to confess that I'm not really sure exactly what it is they want, or what their situation is at the moment. My first reaction is always that those with most money and power are probably in the wrong, though. XD

Re: 43 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-04-03 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Except that the big bad company with all the power is doing all they can to get me out there- not to mention they're giving me an amazing first step into the industry and offering me hands-on training to do whatever I want in computer graphics. Yes, they're big and huge. But they're using their power for the forces of good, so far as I can see. I'm sure I'll be disillusioned later, but they're not the ones holding things up right now.

The problem is the actors aren't happy about new media residuals, which is fair enough in itself. In an effort to prevent this becoming a problem, the AMPTP offered SAG a deal that was pretty much on par with what the WGA got (and we all know how they fought tooth and nail for that). SAG lost the last of my patience when they turned the deal down and said it wasn't good enough.

The people with money and power aren't always wrong- case in point, the HP Lexicon case. On the flip side, the Hollywood actors aren't exactly hurting for money or power. I can't blame the studios for not wanting to start projects they can't finish without the actors- that's just smart business. I can blame the actors for sending everyone into a panic, when they definitely could have already ended this.

I know, I know, it was mostlty hyperbole; I wasn't completely serious. :)

Yes, they're big and huge. But they're using their power for the forces of good, so far as I can see.

Since I know very little of the company itself, all I can say is that it's all good until you have a conflict; it's then you might want a bigger organisation behind you. It's not that a company has to be evil or anything like that, just that they tend to move in the most profitable direction possible, and that's not always a good thing for the employees. Yes, I actually dare to express the opinion that profit alone is not good for a company! XD

SAG lost the last of my patience when they turned the deal down and said it wasn't good enough.

It's all a question of how much they get of the results they actually produce, to me. If their part is unproportionally small, well, I can understand their anger.

This is all, of course, the cultural bias I have from growing up in a country where people who make fantastic sums of money are generally viewed with suspicion rather than admiration, heh.
