I liked it, although I hope people don't take the message away that we should quip less about men because they might secretly be trans women. she felt alienated by people with their "us vs them" mentality and the difficulty of questioning yourself while being questioned by others.

personally I also found it interesting that she relates to men because she had a boyhood. kinda fits my own gender feelings, just that I had a girlhood.

Yeah, I think it's important to understand it as a general challenge to how we talk about masculinity. It's not a question of politeness to trans or queer people.

I do think it's frustrating how much we conflate things that are outside the cis/straight/patriarchal hegemonic default, and things that are queer. Because those are distinct categories. And something that's been frustrating for me in my life is trying to figure out ways to act and spaces to inhabit that don't fall into those hegemonic narratives, without feeling like Im intruding on queer spaces and modes of existence that are not for me.

yeah, good point. it's counter-productive and unkind to equal the alternative to kyriarchie with queerness and then gatekeep it for that reason.

Seconding this.

In what sense are you seconding it

In the sense that I also hope that?

Well, but there are different ways to read that statement

I guess specifically my concern is that you're reading it as "let's keep making fun of men forever"

Oooohhhhhh, I'm glad you pointed that out; that's not my meaning at all, though I see now how you could think that! No, I really like the point she made, I think it's timely and spot-on and necessary criticism of mainstream feminism. My only worry is that people will mistakenly think that the only reason to rethink their attitude towards masculinity would be the possibility that they might be speaking to a closeted trans woman.
