Re: let it all out

I started taking Zoloft in March and gained 30 pounds in a month. My dose doubled in June and I had to start taking Trazodone as well, since the Zoloft now keeps me up at night. I've gained 20 pounds since then. I'm also hot all the time and sweat all day long just sitting at my desk, not even moving. I used to be able to run up the six flights of stairs in my office building, and now I get out of breath walking up one.

I feel so uncomfortable in my body all the time now. Most of the weight I gained shows in my abdomen, and I literally look 8 months pregnant. I've had to buy a whole new wardrobe because I've gone from a size 8 to a size 16 in four months (jfc), and I flinch every time I catch a glimpse of myself in a window reflection.

This fucking sucks.

Hey, anon. I gained weight when I was first on anti-depressants, too. But you might have your vitamin D levels checked. I was hot and sweaty all the time (even in air conditioning) and discovered that it wasn't my meds, but a lack of good old vitamin D. I've been taking an over the counter supplement every day for three months and I feel so much better that I've even been able to stick to healthier eating (with occasional indulgences).
I hope you start feeling better soon.

If the Zoloft is causing you to gain that much weight as well as keeping you up at night and requiring you to take another med to combat that then it sounds like it's not a good choice for you med-wise. I would talk to my doctor about possibly trying something else; there are so many different antidepressants out there these days that there is no reason you should stay on one that's causing you unpleasant side effects that are seriously affecting your health.

This. I couldn't stick with my meds because of that, but there are alternatives out there.

Also, maybe look into a keto diet/lifestyle? I know the main issue here is that your meds are causing weight gain, but it's a pretty reliable way to counter weight gain and eat healthy.
