Re: People Who Claim They are Right about Things They Know Nothing About

Currently going around tumblr:

"The A for 'ally' in LGBTQA is to provide cover for LGBT people coming out of the closet."

No dipshit, it's because we're in a political coalition with straight allies, some of whom stepped up to change laws, raise funds, raise awareness, create supportive spaces, and provided services for HIV+ people at a time we needed them. Sometimes it's important to include them, other times its less important.

The A isn't for ally...

First, it stood for Ally. Later, it stood for both Ally and Asexual. There is a push - mainly from Tumblr, insofar as I can tell - for it to only stand for Asexual.

Meanwhile, I stand in my corner holding the Agender flag, feeling very lonely and slightly peeved.

Agender is already included in the T part, asexual isn't included other than in the A.

There's also a push on Tumblr for aces to not be included at all, "because they're straight" *sigh*
(Which is all sorts of wrong, obviously.)

I agree with anon above that agender is technically included under the T. Technically.
But nonbinary peeps frequently aren't mentioned in discussions about trans peeps (or discussions involving trans peeps), so your frustration is understandable.
I'm nonbinary too (not agender specifically, but definitely nonbinary) and it's definitely lonely :(
So. While I don't agree with trying to push into the A (especially as it'd only solve the acknowledgement issue for a small subset of nonbinary peeps, of which I'm not one), I do believe we (nonbinary peeps as a whole) deserve some explicit recognition somewhere, not just as an afterthought to the binary trans peeps.

NAYRT but other anon above: Technically, all other not explicitly mentioned genders/sexualities could be included under the Q but I guess not everyone is comfortable with the "queer" label.

True. To both points :P
I don't have an opinion on "queer" either way, personally.
It also has the issue of implying existence rather than explicitly stating it, though, which imo doesn't change all that much.

AYRT - I'm generally in favour of 'Queer', mostly because it means I don't have to explain to anyone exactly how I identify.
I just also think that the 'A' can stand for more than one thing.
