Nah, your position isn't really that uncommon. It's just not one that's likely to inspire people to post meta or get into internet slapfights, because indifference is by definition not a passionate position, whereas love and hate both are.

I don't ship Kylo/Rey because I think it will become canon or that Kylo will be redeemed. And I don't consider it a crack pairing either. A crack pairing would be like Poe/C3PO.

I ship it because I like how fucked up, messed up, and abusive it is. I like the power struggles/power imbalance. I love the idea of them hate fucking each other.

It's impossible to sink a ship, by the way. And I don't just mean that for Rey/Kylo. A good chunk of shipping involves ignoring, manipulating, rewriting, and interpreting the canon in more and more ways. This ship isn't going away, buddy, so make peace with it now.

Honestly, I'm still reading it for the stories. I'm loving the Reylo modern AUs and also seeing how everyone is changing canon for Reylo because I don't see it as happening, but I'm enjoying it now.

I also am in love with several of the Senator/Jedi AUs.

To be fair I think when people refer to "sinking" a ship they mean "making it definitively impossible to be canon" rather than "making it so nobody is allowed to ship it" which doesn't even make sense

I do agree Reylo is not a crack pairing, it is based on canon interactions and is also very popular

I think that argument hinges on Han's last attempt to talk to him, and/or his death, being part of what redeems him.

However, maybe it's just because I want something darker, but I personally in the camp of Han's death being tragic and wasteful (I love the guy, but) and Kylo not being redeemed. And Chewie killing him. That last bit may be a niche request, but it would be my preference. Rey doing the deed would also be okay.

I watched SW: TFA prepared to "maybe, but..." on Reylo. Two hours later I was noping the fuck away from that as fast as I could. Who the hell ships Rey with an overgrown violent manchild?

I pretty much don't like this ship because of the fans. Obviously not all of them are bad, but I remember when TFA came out and every Kylo/Ray secret was basically just, "The star wars fandom doesn't like my ships because they're full of gross sjws wahh!!" And after 2-3 months of the same type of secret with the same type of stupid melodrama being posted almost every week, it eventually grates on your nerves. Like...I get that shipping an unpopular pairing sucks, believe me, but ugh move on already.

Also, I kinda doubt Ray would ever willingly hook up with someone who killed her mentor, and tried to kill her and her friends multiple times.

Back before the movie came out and everyone assumed Finn was going to be the Luke part of the new trio I was browsing the merch. There was a stupid little cloth doll you squeezed and it had recorded lines of Kylo's dialogue.

I spent several minutes squeezing it, cracking up at how rivalship suggestive it was and announced that people were going to come out of the movie having watched Kylo say all those things to Finn and ship them LIKE BURNING.

I was half right.

I strongly do not ship this pairing but I'm still ship-and-let-ship about it. Mostly just sad that apparently ReyFinn doesn't get much love, ah well. But I don't like the possible-cousincest (even though I'm hoping they don't turn out related for other reasons), the dynamic, and the idea of him being redeemed (my strong preference is for him to not be).

Of course I'm not active in fandom, which probably would affect my opinions too

I took the secret as the OP talking about that subset of Rylo shippers that insist that their ship is or will be canon, not those who just ship it for fun, knowing full well it will not be.

And while I'm not in this fandom, after SkyeWard and Stand With Ward in the Agents of SHIELD fandom, I'm going to confess to being sympathetic to the OP's feelings.

It always surprises my how huge shipping is for this one movie. Stormpilot and Reylo got so big and I can understand the appeal, but the levels people obsess over these ships confuses me. The most important relationship was FinnRey, even only as a good friendship yet it's so neglected by fandom in favor of slash and a hero x villain ship. Wait, then again maybe it's not so surprising.

Shippers and the anti's both need to chill and just stay in their own lanes. Just enjoy the ship for what it is and don't worry about what is canon and what's not. Shippers stop shoving their ship into others faces or act like it is canon when it's not. Anti's realize that other people are gonna enjoy stuff they don't like, it's not their place to step in.

I guarantee 100% happiness for everyone in fandom if people just stay in their own fucking lanes.

(I DO feel fairly certain the movies are setting him up for a redemption arc, though. And if it's done well I will love it)
