I know a few things about France, but what exactly?

I just need a small town or two that's been around for awhile. Or a common town name (like Springfield or Washington here in the States).

These are communes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communes_of_France), which is not exactly the same as a town. But click on ant link (they're sorted by region) and you'll get a list sorted by date.

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listes_des_anciennes_communes_de_la_France

But when you have a commune that's old enough, search if it's subdivided in villages.
