I think credit score is...insane. I heard about it from a friend who studied in the USA and I was just baffled.

But yeah, the point I was trying to make is HAVING the money. And paying it in one time, instead of over say a year (even if delayed by month or so). If you have a weird system like that, and try to use it in your advantage, sure.

But buying things you can't currently afford, or tying yourself to paying high amounts monthly should be avoided.

You... don't have credit scores?

The only way I'm ever going to get a mortgage in my country is by having a credit card in the first place. It's insane. To try and improve my lot even more I even bought my car on credit and am paying it off in monthly installments - even though I have the sum in my account already.

This is seriously the only way I'll ever get a mortgage.

Not as such, no. You can be blacklisted, I believe, if you do not pay stuff - which you really, really don't want - but otherwise, not really?

I mean, you can get in trouble with your own bank if your balance regularly is negative, where you won't get any credit from them specifically (which would be a problem for a loan). But it's not related to rent that you do not need a loan for. Some places will ask for 3 months rent in advance as proof you have some assets, or copies of your contract/paycheck, but that's about it.

Ah, I think there was confusion between "buying things on credit" and "buying things with a credit card." Granted, the latter is technically a type of the former but a lot of people don't think of it that way because they only use their credit cards for things they can already afford and pay them off every month. (There's also a lot of things that are nearly impossible to pay for through any other method. If I want to go online and buy a plane ticket and reserve a rental car, I'll need a credit card.)
