maaaaybe "they", but I'm not enabling stupidity. There's a difference between being respectful to someone, and making up new words for them.

maaaaybe "they"

new words for them.

you already seem pretty comfortable with they/them pronouns, buddy lmao.

You're right, I'm very comfortable in "they/them" being existing pronouns. They are words, after all.

Doesn't mean I'm going to say "I met Sally and they asked me to use "they/them" pronouns when referring to them."

Why not? You obviously had no difficulty writing that out.

It's stupid to expect people to adjust their spoken language (which they will inevitably mess up at anyway) to non-traditional or made-up pronouns for your made-up gender.

"They" isn't a made up pronoun, and people often use "they" to refer to a person when they don't know their gender. I don't see what it would be so difficult to use it.

Maybe what they are failing to say is that when speaking, they default to he/him/his, she/hers/ pronouns and gets annoyed when people get upset for that.

What about just simple he/she for people who transition? I mess that up sometimes. Just because I mess up doesn't mean it's not worth trying.
And I think in situations where people know you're trying and you genuinely accept them, people are often quite understanding.

Singular is not plural. Self is not other. English grammar is flawed, but it does have elements that serve a useful purpose.

And no, you do not get to dictate my language to me for the sake of your self-importance.

I'm also a native English speaker. People often use a singular "they" when they don't know the gender of a person even those this isn't technically grammatically correct. Therefore, I don't see why it would be so difficult to refer to someone by "they" if they ask. I can understand being annoyed by neopronouns, but I'm only talking about the word "they" here.

I can see the self vs. other argument, but singular they/them/their is the way the language is going. Sorry.

Unfortunately English also lacks a neutral pronoun like French's "on." Also, language is fluid and kind of whatever people agree it is. A singular "they" is perfectly cromulent.

What happened to "one"? Not a native speaker so idk but I've seen one used as an indirect and neutral way of referring to a person.

One is intrinsically a distancing way of referring to a person. Almost dehumanizing.

But..."on" in French does much the same, I think.

I'm no grammar expert, but "one" always seems like a pronoun used when a person is referring to themselves.

One does not think it works smoothly to be saying "One is a person
one thinks is a grammatical idiot" when talking about someone else.

I find this comment embiggening. :)

Singular 'they' is grammatically non-ideal, but it's also pretty clearly the best available solution to a pressing problem - one which outweighs the, frankly, relatively minor value of maintaining the distinction in question.

So, you know, deal with it.
