Again, people are really not out here saying that any person who dislikes a certain ship is racist. Theyre saying that, when you look at cross-fandom trends, there is a racial pattern that emerges in general.

Also the cute / sexy dichotomy is an interesting one and im curious what you think differentiates them.

I think it's fair to say that when people talk about it here, they're generally not accusing everyone of being racist, though. I haven't seen that from people besides anons really obviously trying to troll.

Is that the essay that basically compared "I can't help what turns me on" to people telling victims they've groped and assaulted that their dick just has a mind of its own as if those two things are in any way the same?

The gist I got from discussion is that it's a long thing on "Shipping two white guys does not make me racist or misogynistic, shipping a black man and a white woman together doesn't automatically make you NOT racist/misogynistic, and bullying people is bad" vs. the fandom screaming "If you don't ship Rey and Finn it makes you racist and misogynistic." and lots of people in the middle going "There are a billion reasons someone might ship/notship something and to say racism and misogyny can't be somewhere in there is dumb but also saying it's the only reason is dumb" but that's much less interesting than the two extremes.

That's what I got too but I'm generally inclined to find a charitable interpretation of things.
