I always thought it was fans like telling each other "hey this thing as lots of ho yay" so others check it out. Whereas straight people can pretty much be seen in anything, so they got a lot more options.

I know the femmslash fandom will watch pretty much anything once they hear there's a f/f relationship in it. I don't consider that a bad thing. Gotta show the writers what we want right?
