(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 01:49 am (UTC)(link)If people like a certain dynamic (bad boy redeemed by the love of a good girl, crime-fighting partners who fall in love, whatever) they'll be on the lookout for media that contains that dynamic.

Etc.
And let's not forget all the canon material that caters to thus exact preference. 50 shades of Grey. Twilight. Saku/Sasu is the version that got canon. And there are masses of other fandoms with that trope.
The thing is: Hey fans don't need that much fanfic because almost all fandoms already cater to their interests.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 11:47 am (UTC)(link)I think you're missing the point. If the characters and their dynamics were in fact identical, then there wouldn't be any need to criticize this phenomenon, because the people who wrote Zutara and Reylo interchangeably would just be writing it IC.
The criticism is that Zutara and Reylo should be written as completely different ships, but instead fans of the former have latched onto the latter and are reproducing all the same story beats and relationship dynamics and tropes in their fic.
(Disclaimer: I haven't watched A:TLA and I don't read fic for either of these ships, so I have no idea how valid the above criticism is. I'm just clarifying the AYRT's argument as written in this comment thread.)
