For me, it was the fact that the update changed the app from being compatible with my phone to not-compatible.

So I get the fun. "You need to update to load the game! Update now?" with Ok as the only option. And then it takes me to the app page and "this app is not compatible with your device."

I like my phone. I'm not about to buy a new one just for Pokemon Go unless they do some serious bug fixes.

Man, that's harsh. :/ Maybe a future update will make the game compatible again? Idk if that's likely, but I wish on your behalf.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you looked into sideloading the file you need for the update? We had the same problem but were able to install the update manually.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I was able to install the update manually now, it loads and.... GPS not found. I've tried the fixes, but so far no dice. Maybe the next update will save me.

Do you leave your wifi on when running from cell? I found, when not connected to wifi, I still need it turned on to get GPS working for some reason...

(Anonymous) 2016-08-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's on and connected to the home wifi. It's even supposed to have the option on to get gps info from the wifi if it can't get it itself and no luck.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you. I can't use Pokémon Go at all anymore. Can't find my GPS, no matter what I do. I already tried all the tips online (except the 'download this program' ones, I find them sketchy) and I'm stuck.

That happened to me for a few days after I bought my new phone. I took into a Verizon store to have it looked at. The guy at the store did the same stuff I was doing and it...somehow worked. And has worked since. IDGI.

What kind of phone is it? Is it on the list of compatible phones for the game? Because if so, I'd get a refund for any money you've spent, that's bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-08 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It has always been "incompatible" with my device (despite working perfectly fine). Just download the APK file.

I only got the update a couple days ago and have had precious little time to try it, but tbh I never used tracking. I wish it was still there because I think it's a great, useful feature, and I'd LIKE to use it, but I live in a pretty shit area for Pokemon Go anyway so I'm not that motivated.

I just wonder if the update adjusted the rate at which Pokemon escape from Pokeballs, or if they'll do that later. I'm only level 14 and sometimes I can't even catch a fucking Pidgey without it escaping five times.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently they did tweak the ball-capture dynamics and have acknowledged it's a bug they are fixing because apparently it's way off from what it should be.

[personal profile] elaminator 2016-08-07 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that's good to know! (As long as that dynamic is, 'It shouldn't be this difficult to capture a low to mid-level Pokemon' and not, 'this should be four times more difficult', because I would give the game up entirely.)

From what I've experienced since the update, the freezing after catching Pokemon seems to be less prominent. Not sure if that will hold up or if other people have experienced it as well, but that pleased me.

I only figured out how the tracking worked like the day before it went away, so the loss didn't really factor in for me.

The escape rate, and smaller catching circle is what's throwing me atm. I'm wasting so many balls!

I'm wasting so many balls!

That both sounds dirty, and sums up my entire Pokemon Go experience. "Pokemon Go: The wasting of the balls."

At this point having 50 Pokeballs should give me like...four Pokemon. (Slight exaggeration, but I have seriously wasted like ten Pokeballs on semi-high level Pokemon before.)

[personal profile] nightscale 2016-08-07 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have intended it to sound dirty. :P

But yeah, I got a bunch more Pokeballs yesterday from going past some Pokestops on the way to grocery shopping and it already feels like I've pissed a good chunk of them away just trying to catch Pidgey's or Caterpie's, the eff man?

I don't go near enough Pokestop's on a daily basis, don't do this to me. D:

It's hard (*cough*) to get enough Pokeballs, isn't it? I'm jealous of people who live right on or next to a Pokestop and can get more at any time. I would play the game more if collecting Pokeballs wasn't such a pain in the ass.

I 'play' while grocery shopping so I can rack up a bit more distance for egg hatching, but I'm not constantly looking at my phone.

From what my daughter said (I don't play the game), they're bringing tracking back, it was just too buggy and totally overwhelmed, so they took it down.

So - the game's not done evolving!

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The game will be much better when there's a decent tracker system, an adjustment in Pokemon appearance rates (so less chance of pidgeys, ratattas, and weedles and more chance of others), and when other gen Pokemon get added, meaning hopefully, even if there are going to be com mons everywhere, that there'll be a selection from each gen, so there'll be a dozen or so com mons rather than 3 or 4 depending on area. Since drowzees are as common as pidgeys and weedles in my area.

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-08-07 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
lol where do you live? Drowzees are EVERYWHERE in my city. My friends and I at Gen Con yesterday said "Indianapolis has a Drowzee problem", and it's true.

I don't mind the high appearance of Pidgeys and Weedles because those are really good for power leveling. I would love to see a few more of the others though. Setting lures is cool but the lures always seem to attract the same Pokemon every time - Jynx, for example. So many Jynx.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-07 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen two jynx pop up on tracker but not been able to catch one yet. I think they're meant to be more common in my towns centre but I barely go in there as I've no need. I know they're good for power levelling, but I just groan every time I see them. I am much more interested in trying to get all the different Pokemon, and evolve them etc, so I'd much rather more variety so I can get more candies. Thank Arceus for eggs.

Ah, I mean I definitely want to get the Pokedex but even more so I want to play competitively in gyms so power leveling is important for me. To each their own! I hope you have better luck in the future finding the Pokemon you need.

Off topic but reading that someone else was an Indy local on here made me super happy <3

The removal of tracking and pokevision. Oh, and the new refresh rate which means I don't get squat while on the train.

Train ride and lunch breaks are the only time I can really play. Train is whatever pops up, lunch is specific hunts. Now I can't do either :/ So I've not really been playing except to hatch eggs.
