Do you have any like this? Characters you find totally sexy as a top or a bottom but not at all as the reverse.

Who are they, and which?

So, in SPN, I can only see Sam as a top. He tops Dean, or Castiel.

Castiel is a top, unless he's with Dean. Then he's totally a bottom.

Dean is always a bottom, unless he's with Cas or Crowley.

Crowley's a secret bottom, even though he wouldn't want everyone to know it. Too dangerous.

I usually back-button out of fics that deviate too much from these roles, but more because it's a characterization thing for me than because I don't find it hot.

With SPN, it is more about roles than positions for me. I see Sam and Cas as dominant and Dean as submissive. I don't really care who is topping or bottoming, but if I see Dean in a dominant role I generally won't like the fic.

I completely agree on the characterization thing. So many bottom!Sam fics have Sam as this limp noodle totally in thrall to his bossy, jealous, and often abusive big brother.

(YKINMKATOK, but what show are you even WATCHING?)

I generally see Sam as the initiator, the one who is running the fuck, but not necessarily the one who is doing the penetrating. (Power bottom Sam, telling Dean that he wants to be fucked now and don't dare come until he says so? I am so there.)

Similarly, Dean will happily go along with whatever his partner wants, whether he's the one penetrating or being penetrated. ESPECIALLY if that partner is Sam.

Cas I see more as service-oriented, especially when it comes to Dean.

Totally agree with you on Crowley. Poor bb went through all the trouble to turn Dean into a demon in hopes of getting laid.

I watch Grimm, and ship Nick/Monroe, and almost all the fic for them has bigger, growly Monroe going all alpha dominant on smaller, wide-eyed, pretty little Nick.

I don't see it. At all.

Nick's a Grimm, a total badass, and Monroe does anything he asks all the time. I'm convinced that Monroe's inner wolf sees Nick as his alpha, and therefore Monroe MUST be the bottom.

Are any of the top Monroe fics stories where Monroe is a service top? i.e. top physically, but submissive mentally

Bucky bottoms. I think it's because I think Seb Stan is pretty though. I'm not going to argue it's about his ~*character*~

For me it's almost all of them. 90% of the time I only like the characters I like in one particular role, and it's whatever I think is the most IC for them.

This has zero bearing on whether I think they can perform and enjoy the other role, I just don't care to read it. My lack of interest in the other way around is not an implicit suggestion that they can't switch, but obviously I'm not going to read or write what I'm not interested in.

Oscar the Grouch is a power bottom and nobody can convince me otherwise.

I guess you could say he likes to bend over for "big bird."

All right, so who is the top to his power bottom ways?

Boromir would bottom but he has a shitload of issues that stem from cultural ideas of "acceptable roles".

I like pretty boys as bottoms. I am the only one ever with this opinion, I know. I don't really like it when the smaller, prettier guy tops. Unless they are both pretty and they switch.

You're not the only one!! I enjoy this as well. Attractive twinks should always be on the bottom, period.

Trying to think of any and no. I always prefer switching. And the more a character is characterised as a top the more I want to see them bottoming. It's so stupid and I hate it.

I wish I could find more Fenris/Anders hatesex where Fenris bottoms, though. It's not that I hate Anders bottoming it's just I hate the way he's so often characterised as a sad little woobie in those fics when they're both as angry and bitter as each other.

For me if I have a preference, it is for roles, not positions. If I care, what I care about is who is dominant or who is submissive. If a dominant is bottoming or vice versa, I'm perfectly fine with that.

Dean Winchester is submissive, Sam Winchester is dominant, and so is Castiel (though I don't care so much about him, it is just that I generally read him paired with Dean who I do care about).

Spike from Buffy is submissive. Angel is dominant. Buffy is a switch.

Mairon is a total switch, but he's particular about who he'll sub for (pretty much only Melkor). He's happy dominating anyone, but he has to trust someone completely to sub. And even with Melkor he sometimes tops from the bottom (meaning he lets Melkor think he's in charge but manipulates things so he always gets what he wants). Melkor is completely dominant. Even if he bottoms, he needs to be in charge. Celebrimbor I don't think is really strongly either, but he very easily falls into the submissive role with Annatar.

If I'm reading Lucius/Narcissa, I prefer Narcissa to be in a more dominant role, which doesn't happen often in fics. Lucius I guess I see as a switch because I'll read him as anything, but I much prefer if he's with his wife that he's submissive.

Occasionally, Barbossa really wants to be fucked, but he'd never admit it because it would seem too much like weakness.

If he's having sex with another man, James Bond will be physically on top, even (especially) if he's the one being penetrated.

No. I have this amazing ability to picture any character in any position.

So do most people. I hope you don't think people not finding something hot means they're incapable of imagining it happening. I can imagine watersports, and while I can imagine them being hot for some people, they don't do a thing for me.

I really don't like Grantaire from Les Mis bottoming at all

I have pretty strong preferences about it. I admit I was always a bit salty that the general preference in my first two fandoms was the opposite of mine. Oh well, tough luck. But what bothered me was that the simple mechanics of a sexual practice bled over into characterization I didn't care for.

But then I dipped my toes into another one, where my preference was that of the majority, which was really nice.

Back when I was in the Sherlock Holmes film fandom, I was constantly batting my ire at bottom!Holmes. I MUCH preferred top!Holmes.

In the Nu!Trek fandom, I can switch it up sometimes, but I still prefer top!Bones and bottom!Kirk.
