So apparently Ghostbusters is officially a flop. So much for the comments in the secret last week saying it was a success lol.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think we can all definitely agree that Suicide Squad is an objectively superior movie.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
SS didn't have queef jokes so it is

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
honka honka

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You can say that it wasn't a success without saying it was a flop

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The studio lost 70 million because of it.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That was a very odd thread. I would use the word delusional.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Still trying, huh, nonny? Well, bless your little heart for being so persistent, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, anon is correct. It is officially a flop and will very likely not be getting a sequel. It lost a lot of money.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a good movie that didn't do well at the box office primarily because it didn't get released in China.

I don't think "flop" is the correct word to encapsulate those facts.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Lmao primarily? Deadpool didn't get release in China either, was rated R and was based off something that most people weren't aware of. What's GB's excuse?

I liked it way better than the original. Anyone who says that movie is objectively good is wearing serious nostalgia goggles.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You are invested in this to an obnoxious degree. Your life must so sad if being "right" about a movie's success or failure while beating your rightness down the throat of all the "wrong" people is so important to you.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
lol not 'invested' i just enjoy the schadenfreude of it all and seeing the damage control even now

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
God, the same-anoning on this comm is getting so repetitive and obvious and annoying.

The film did not do well in comparison to what it spent. I don't know how this is an arguable point.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Flop" implies something different from "did not do well in comparison to what it spent". Flop implies something closer to, like, "abject critical and commercial failure". And so since that's the language that was used, that's what people are responding to. Especially given the broader sociopolitical context surrounding the movie.

Did you read the news? Hollywood Reporter said its failure at the BO cost the studio 70 million dollars. It's officially a flop when you lose money.

I commented above and I'm definitely not a same-anon. What a weird thing to accuse people of same-anoning for.

Also, learn the definition of flop. This movie did not flop, at all, by any definition.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? The studio lost 70 million. The film didn't even break even. The planned sequel will likely be canned because of it.

If that's not a flop then what is it?

Dude, who gives a fuck? I mean, maybe the people who wanted a sequel, but beyond that, who out in laymanland cares? More to the point, it seems like you think it's box office success or failure is an indicator of how good it is. And that's just not the case. Shit movies have made big bucks and great movies have been commercial failures.

And I'm not saying Ghostbusters was great or shit. I'm saying chill out.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-10 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
makes me kinda sad bc i enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i was going to

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I liked it enough that I'll buy the dvd when it comes out. Big budget stuff like this is usually only good for one sequel, maybe two, before getting ridiculous, anyway. I'll be kinda bummed if it doesn't get a sequel, but it won't leave me a soggy crying bundle of misery outside the theater or whatever.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
In all honestly, the original Ghostbusters had a horribly shitty sequel. It's probably perfectly fine that the reboot doesn't get one, either.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but to be honest, I mostly care about this because I really, really want the Rocketeer reboot to go forward

And also generally lots more action-adventure movies with female casts BUT HOW GOOD DOES THAT ROCKEETER REBOOT SOUND THO

(Anonymous) 2016-08-11 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Financially? Yeah, no shit. But the movie itself is good.
