When you say that the movie insisted something, what exactly do you mean? I don't remember a scene in the movie where the characters started some meta commentary on how anyone who didn't like it must be sexist. Who is "the movie"? The director? The actors? The publicity people? Fans?

Well, spoilers, there were a few jokes about the online reactions when the characters did a scene about posting their ghost video to youtube for the first time.

I laughed at those though, and I didn't really take it as a meta comment.

Oh I guess I didn't take it that way. I thought it was a joke about Youtube comments in general. I mean even my dad was backing me up when I was telling my mom that the first rule of the internet is "don't read the comments". It's pretty common sentiment in general, so I didn't assume it was directed at the reaction to the movie's trailer specifically. That could just be me being oblivious though.

There were a few interviews that specifically mentioned the director changing the script because of the reaction to the trailer. I'm 90% sure it was that scene that got changed/added in response.

Interesting. I didn't hear about that since I don't really follow movie news.

The studio and director deleted relevant criticism from the preview on YouTube and claimed that people only disliked it because of sexism.

As a feminist, that's just wrong to me. That's putting female-led movies on a pedestal and claiming that only the gender of the main cast matters, nothing else.

I haven't seen it yet myself, but I've heard after the sexist backlash, the director added a scene where they get heckled by some drunks outside a club, "ain't no bitches busting no ghosts."

And yeah, that dropped the movie a couple of points for me.

What?? No, there's just a line where they read that as a comment on Youtube.
