No need to feel bad. Being a Pokemon fan doesn't mean you have to constantly enjoy everything Pokemon-related. You can get bored with things and still be a fan.

This is me with Dragonball Super!

I love everything Dragonball; I've been a fan since 2001, but Super I just can't get into. (Yes, I even like GT) Maybe it's because I don't......care for Japanese DB......? I love the (English) dub so much; it's the one I grew up with. To me, Chris Sabat IS Vegeta. (Husbando 4 Life!!) Maybe I'll watch it if Funimation ever acquires it......

Speaking of, I don't like the way Super is handling Vegeta, at least from what I've seen. Last I watched, he seemed soooooo OOC, almost like a dumbed-down caricature of who he used to be. Definitely not the character I fell in love with.

Whatever it is, I'm just bored with Super, and a part of me feels guilty about it. I've even had family say to me "How can YOU not like it? You're the Dragonball person!!" :x

Sorry for the rambling! I'm just so passionate about DB......

Go seriously needs some kind of endgame besides endlessly taking over gyms that are then taken over in turn. The devs have occasionally floated the idea of modules besides lures that would allow for better upgrades to your gyms--maybe that would give players more of a sense that they're actually accomplishing something.

I deleted it the other day because it was easier than finding out how to get more pokeballs.

i only just downloaded it a few days ago so it's still interesting. i went on more walks this week than i have in a long time which was nice, though i don't think i'll stay very interested in it for a long while unless they bring back some kind of tracking or just new stuff to do or pokemon to catch.

I tried taking it on nature hikes, but I never see nearly as many Pokemon as I do down by the mall. This is the problem with weighting spawn rate by number of nearby landmarks.

i read it had to do with the amount of cellular activity in the area, not necessarily landmarks? though i went to the mall yesterday and there was nothing there but the local beach has like 10 pokestops and 3 gyms within the park. i mean it's a small mall but still.

I understand they are introducing trading later this year and Gen II next year. No word on when tracking will get better though :(

No tracking plus the new refresh rate has basically killed my interest. I can't get anything when travelling to or from work. I can't find anything efficiently on my break. Basically stopped playing.. And the pokego watch is taking so long to come out I probably won't buy it because my interest has died.

:/

It's fun during a walk and encourages me to go out on runs... but seriously, I feel it was released prematurely. The concept is surely groundbreaking, but it never should have been released before trading was a thing. And frankly, I would've definitely made training/battling wild Pokemon a thing, rather than just the game be chucking balls at everything. I mean, the concept is okay, but there's zero reason to be attached to any of the Pokemon at all.

That's probably my biggest problem...apparently the Pokémon have set power potentials so if I got one that I loved, nicknamed it, and used it a lot, but then got a stronger one at a higher level...that'd be weird.

Aw, that sucks - and I know a lot of people were really looking forward to the game. I'm not bored yet exactly but I am eagerly anticipating updates especially one that gives us a decent tracking system...

No shame in it though. If you're bored, you're bored, and anyone who tries to make you justify it is being rather shitty.

3/5 of the hardcore pokefans I know don't like it. It's okay not to like it, it's quite different gameplay. I would maybe give it a go after some more updates though - Niantic say it's only at 10% of what they want the game to be atm.

Same here, it really just made me wonder why I wasn't playing regular pokemon instead

I'm still having fun with it, but I don't play it every day. I go on walks where I can and otherwise check around my house maybe once a day to see if there's anything there.

But there's nothing wrong with growing bored of something if it isn't keeping you interested, you have no obligation to keep playing if you really don't want to.

I sort of feel the same way. I really like the game when it came out but it's getting 'eh' quickly. And frankly, as a rural player I feel like the game just doesn't give a fuck about me -- I was in a big city on a trip and there were pokestops every two feet, a bunch of different pokemon to catch, gyms, and everyone's at super high levels because of course they are, they have actual fun game things to do. Go back home and it's all pidgeys and ratatas if I see anything at all, and not a single pokestop within walking distance. It's frankly really frustrating, I read about all these people going to like the local park and meeting other players and having fun, I've met one other person on a pokemon hunt at the same time as me. I wish they would've found some way to give rural players the same kind of experience as city ones.

Later on I hope they finally take suggestions for stops, because that's what they did with Ingress (which is why there are so many churches).

I'm also a rural player and had a similar experience. I was staying in a hotel in the city and there were four Pokestops within easy walking distance plus one I could reach from my room. I got about half the total number of pokemon in my pokedex in those 12 hours I was there! Then back home and it's all grass types and Pidgeys and Zubats. I like Bulbasaurs, but a little variety would be nice.

it's Niantic's fault for dropping the ball on a multi million dollar app and repeatedly refusing to listen to valid criticism. I imagine with a functioning tracker and several other missing features, they wouldn't be seeing such a harsh dropoff in players.

[personal profile] juliamon 2016-08-18 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Considering how Niantic has been handling things, I wouldn't look down on anyone giving up on it right now. It feels like it's still in alpha, maybe a year from now it'll be worth trying again but at the moment I can't really fault you.

I also feel like it's not really aimed at hardcore fans, given how it jettisons basically every core mechanic of the original series, particularly the leveling aspect. Most of the people I know who still play PoGo are those who have never been dedicated fans of the games or haven't played since the first gen.

I wouldn't feel bad. I was talking to someone about this this weekend and I think the game is underdeveloped. It's not even a real Game Freak game.

You don't have to constantly enjoy it to be a fan :) interest comes and goes.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-18 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting. Obviously, it is okay to be a big fan of Pokemon and find Pokemon Go boring!

But reading through the comments on this thread, I wonder if I just have low standards for games, because I still find Pokemon Go pretty fun without any tracking or anything. I just recently got Ultra Balls, and have started being able to take down gyms, so the game has gotten more interesting for me lately. But yeah, I do live in a city.

In any case, I get the feeling that Pokemon Go doesn't scratch the same itch as the Pokemon games, so probably appeals more to casual mobile gamers who haven't touched a Pokemon game in over ten years (like me) than it does to people who actually appreciate the Pokemon series.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-19 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people think the game isn't very good, including me. It's novel, but not that fun. The only thing Pokémonish about it are the graphics.
