It's amazing how quickly this fandom went to complete and utter shit (I don't think even Undertale got soured for people that quickly) and how the fans of this ship managed to turn me (and many other people) off this ship completely. At first I used to reblog art of it and even read some fic, even though these kinda "slap slap, kiss kiss" ships usually don't appeal to me, but now I switched to avoiding it completely. Not to say it's only Klance shippers who do nasty shit because I've definitely seen it from other groups too, but since they're by far the biggest ship they also have the largest amount of assholes, and it's hard to avoid their opinions on ships they deem ~problematic~ because they're everywhere. I sincerely hope the Duo Of Holy Ships Klance & Shallura gets sunk hard in canon (doesn't matter how) so the shippers can cry about how the writers are homophobic and racist for not making their super progressive ships canon.

Supposedly Lance and Keith are getting love interests in season 2. As long as it's not with one another you can be sure you'll get that Epic Fireball Of Ship Angst Hell that you're wishing for haha.

different anon:

Dare I ask who they are offering as the possible contenders?

(Anonymous) 2016-08-20 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They aren't, or at least, nobody from the cast or crew has said anything like that. It was literally just a tweet some Klance shipper made that gained traction and now people are treating it as truth.

I've only heard that the Paladins get split up into groups of two next season, with Lance/Hunk and Keith/Shiro getting stranded. Naturally this got the Klancers in a jealous tizzy.

While I'm actually (passively) OTP-ing a different ship (Shiro/Keith), I usually have a "ship and let ship" view of things. But Klance shippers are just so annoying and pushy that I started blocking the ship on tumblr (I don't actively seek out any fandom stuff for this show because damn, it's mostly shit/people being assholes. But a few people I watch and who usually really like ship it.)

Same here. I thought it was cute at first but now I limit myself to stuff that trickles in from fans of other ships. I know fandom shouldn't affect how I view the ships and characters themselves but the fans are just so unpleasant it's safer for my mental health to just avoid it as much as I can. People take this ship way too damn seriously.

It's weird cuz the other ships definitely aren't without their bad fans too, but when they're being annoying it usually doesn't come in the form of shoving their noses where nobody asked and seeking out other fans to abuse. Klance fans are the only ones within Voltron fandom that really do that for some reason, even though they already got majority power anyway so they have no reason to feel threatened by the existence of other ships.

Why Shallura? I'm just curious - I don't know anything about the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with Shallura aside from being boring imo, but it's what I like to call a "trash can" ship. It does have fans who genuinely like it for its own sake, but most of the time people only "ship" it because it keeps potential love rivals away from their main OTP and Shiro is Keith's most popular other shipping partner.

If you were in Avatar fandom, you might remember how many Zutara fans were also Taang supporters, not because they actually cared about the ship but because Aang being taken freed Katara up to get with Zuko and because it looked better than killing him off or making him evil like they would do to Mai. I shudder to think about the kind of demonization Shiro would get from Klance fans if Allura wasn't around.

Thanks for the answer. No, I was never in Avatar fandom (or ever watched the show for that matter), but I think I know what you're referring to, from other fandoms. I didn't really think of it that way, since it was the only main character ship I could maybe see some slight canon basis for, toward the end of the season. But then I'm not in the fandom, and don't really care about any of the ships. I was just curious why it might have attracted particular ire.

AYRT
Basically what the other anon said, Shallura by itself is not a bad ship and there are people who like it for what it is (I've met a few people whose main ships are Shiro/Keith and Shiro/Allura) but just going to its AO3 tag makes it obvious that the ship exists mostly to be the side/background pairing for Klance and keep Shiro away from Keith. The Klance&Allura alliance also likes to tout their pairings as ultra progressive every chance they get so if you don't ship Shallura or prefer them with other characters, you're automatically misogynist, racist and anti-black.
