Wow. Breathe. It's possible OP is ESL. And even if they're not, not everyone is a genius speller like you, anon.

"this actress is terrible therefore everything is terrible" I see u OP

the last season finale kinda explained why she's so dangerous - it's not because she's a terrifying person, it's just that she has so much power and influence at her disposal because she's running a group of people who are terrifying

but you are, of course, entitled to your own opinion

I think you went with the wrong option, OP. Natalie Dormer has yet to live up to the hype about her, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-21 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Tbh, I'm not sure I've ever seen a Moriarty who really convinced me they were a terrifying master criminal. It might be the super hyped up Holmes/Moriarty feud that makes all Moriartys seem kind of petty.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
The best Moriarty ever is the one from Star Trek and I think the fact that it's not all about him being a master criminal arch-nemesis of Holmes helps make him more fun.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
BBC Sherlock's Moriarty remains the absolute bottom of the barrel, IMHO. Just the level of bone-dense factually-wrong stupidity being presented as unmatchable genius... it hurt to watch.

There were a couple who were decent.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with the anon above me that the ST:TNG Moriarty was good, but I also thought Rathe from Young Sherlock Holmes (who was implied to become Moriarty) was someone I thought could become a master criminal and I feel like he (and Holmes) would absolutely have a feud.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-21 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Moriarty is just a nonsensical character. It's not Dormer's fault. they made Moriarty's organization sooooo overpowered I don't even understand what they're going for anymore. Its been a long time since I read the original stories but wasn't he more of a crime lord, and even then it was a little ambiguous why he bothered? I don't know if you've watched the most recent season, but the more they reveal about her organization the more ridiculous it seems. I don't think Dormer is ever coming back and it hasn't improved things.

"Ridiculous" is kind of fitting with canon, though. Moriarty is something Doyle came up with to explain Holmes' demise so it feels like he pulled it out of a hat... because he DID pull it out of a hat. You don't really see that much of his criminal organization in great detail and it's described in general terms as being enormous and far reaching, much like Elementary.

I like her but to each their own. But I've also never really been convinced that any Moriarty was a 'terrifying crime master' anyway, they've all come off as pretty contrived to me.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I like her butt too.

For all those who are saying Moriarty seemed a bit contrived: that's because he is. He appeared in one story in the original canon, and that was the one where Holmes died. Or "died," as it turned out to be. He was mentioned in one or two others, but in the original canon he was never an archenemy except in that his was the story where ACD chose to kill Holmes.

And no, I don't take any particular position on the subject. I just think that's why some Moriarties seem better than others; we're not given hardly anything in original canon but by now it's become tradition that Sherlock Holmes' archenemy is Moriarty, and a Holmes story that doesn't eventually address it will have to address endless questions why not. So, yes. Contrived. At least that much.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-21 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I found her transformation from fragile victim to ruthless crime lord quite convincing. Much better than Sherlock's version of Moriarty any day.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-21 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol at the idea of a woman kingpin.

I thought this version was great, especially as they didn't overuse her. Then there was that fucking awful later episode with her secret daughter and the whole thing fell flat. But I still like her flirting with Joan via killing people for her, like a cat bringing you dead things.

(Anonymous) 2016-08-22 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I love Elememtary, but I've always foung the Moriarty storylines kind of dull - not bad, just not really interesting.

Are you a butthurt BBClock stan, by any chance?
