I'm making a thread to check in on a couple of anons who posted recently about some upsetting stuff happening; feel free to use this thread to check in on anyone you're thinking about, or to post updates if you've got them!

Anon who posted last night about taking their drunk mom to the ER, how are you holding up? I hope the work day went okay. <3

Didn't go to work, did get mom home from the ER. She now has to self-administer blood-thinner shots twice a day; I will do a lot for her that I should let her do (or fail to do) for herself, but I won't do blood or needles. She called in to the two sober homes she's on a waiting list for, and is still sober (it will get harder when the instead-of-booze detox drugs run out.) I'm fighting to stay awake long enough that I sleep through the night--my brain doesn't do naps well; if I sleep for any length of time, when I wake up, my brain insists on staying that way for at least 12 hours. Eh, I'll survive. Ordered my textbooks online from the ER, so that's done.

Sounds like it went okay! I'm really sorry you have to deal with this, but you're doing amazing. Even made good use of that ER time! :P Hang in there, anon, and I hope it gets easier soon.

Anon who posted last night about a stressful situation with their brother and their niece, how are you and the family doing?

Not well. My sister and niece are already in therapy so they are going to (hopefully) talk to the therapist about how to move forward. Obviously my niece isn't going to be around him.

This all happened six years ago. He was 10-14 when it happened and from what I've read it happening that young could be an indication something was being done to him as well.

We've not talked to my brother about it because A) how do you start a conversation like that B) we live far enough away we really only talk thru text.

We've not talked to police because, well...we found this out yesterday and don't really know what to do.

I've mostly been trying to distract myself. I spent hours last night in bed going over every possible scenario in my head. I had a panic attack about it today and am just trying to wrap my head around the situation.

Oh, friend, I'm sorry. Therapy is a great first step, and a therapist will be able to give you ideas of how to move forward with anything else (talking to brother, etc.; I doubt the police would need to be involved, since it happened so long ago and they were both underage). Remember that there's no single answer to any of this, that you haven't done anything wrong, and that everyone is safe at the moment. As bad as this feels right now, and probably will for a long time, it's a good thing that your niece spoke up and you can keep her and the rest of the family safe now.

Hang in there, anon. Families are rough and this is some next level shit, but you'll all get through it. It sounds like you and your sister are pretty close, which is good. Keep good people around you :)

It sounds like you could use some therapy if you can get access to it, too. Especially as there aren't any easy answers. I didn't see if your brother has children, but that might be a concern, and, too, there's not exactly a good way to ask him if he was ever molested. I'm so sorry you're going through this and I hope things turn out as well as they can, for your niece, your sister, you, and even your brother.

He doesn't have kids and is never really around them (afaik).

Crazy coworker anon here.

Crazy coworker resigned on friday. I am so glad. I will quietly remove from my facebook in a month or two when it is firmly established he is not coming back.

(Work has some rule about having a month or so to change your mind about resigning.)

I am already 10x more relaxed.
