Are you Australian?

I've only ever encountered this strong a reaction to Americans making media about America because they like America and live there from Australians. Including an Australian friend of mine who likes marvel movies but gave me this exact explanation, almost word for word, about why she doesn't like captain america.

I just really don't get it. It seems like a waste of energy. Sometimes people are gonna talk about the nice things about the place they and 300 million other people live.

- not an american.

Wow! So you realise that comes across as prejudiced against Australians?

I'm Australian and I like Captain America. But I can see how OP can think that, without the context of Cap as in just looking at his name and the red white and blue suit.

Having said that, a lot of butthurt Cap America fans here in the comments.

I know it's anecdotal, I've just observed Australians being upset by American Exceptionalism enough to notice a pattern!
Half my friend and family are Australian, or close to it. I'm not judging anyone.

Well Australians in general may have a bit of jaundiced view of America, but not all of us look at Captain America and immediately think he's going to be a straight up piece of nationalistic jingoism, because even Americans can be turned off by that, especially when they feel their government is not not governing well, and comics tend to pick up and reflect those sort of feelings.

I really doubt Australia is the only place that has a problem with American exceptionalism.
