Do you sleep with the windows open? I am trying to save some money but I worry about leaving the windows open overnight if it might 'invite' crime. The area I live in can have break ins but overall it's a pretty quiet, safe area. I know it sounds like a weird question but it's been four months now living by myself that I wonder about these things. I live in a house, not apartment. I leave the front light on overnight to at least there is light in the neighborhood.

Is there a screen on your window?

I sleep with a window open, but I live in a fairly quiet neighborhood and there are woods mostly behind my house. I also have screens. I'm on the second floor, I don't know how I would feel if I lived in an area with break ins.

I will to let in cool air, but my windows have screens and I guess I'm not too worried about someone breaking in like that.

I'm on the fourth floor and don't control the temp in my apartment, so my windows are practically open year round. XD Barring those nights in winter when it gets down to like -40C.

There are these key track stops you can attach to the track for windows that slide sideways that will only let you open them to whatever point you put them or you can put a piece of rebar (or something similar) in the track that is a couple of inches shorter than the track - the windows could be open a couple of inches, but no one outside could open them further without a lot of effort on their part.

My room is on the second story and it has a screen, so when it gets too hot I'll leave the window open. I do live in the suburbs, though.

I sleep with my window open year round, but it's old and has been painted so many times it's stuck open. I'm fat and I can chin up on it without it budging, so I couldn't shut it if I wanted to. But it's not open wide enough for someone to get in, and if they tried to open it further it would make a shit ton of noise and also probably stick. It's been so hot lately that I also sleep with my sliding glass door open, but since it opens directly onto an enormous thorny climbing rose that is busy trying to eat the whole house, I don't see anyone having a painless time breaking in that way either.

Yes, but my windows, being much newer that the rest of my building, have these built-in stops that, when flipped open, let you push the window up a few inches to let air in, but no more. Anyone trying to get in wouldn't be able to open the window wider or reach far enough up to close the stops.

I have a big-ass dog. I'm not at ALL worried about sleeping with the windows open.
