(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)I agree some people ship things while understanding how messed up it is, but that doesn't mean that everyone does that. As much as people on here refuse to admit it there are people who romanticize things or at least dont perceive toxic parts of relationships. and AYRT was pretty good about phrasing it in a specific way about people who do that.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)I went out of my way to make it clear I'm not making judgments on people who ship toxic ships?? Just on people who ship toxic ships while exhibiting no awareness of what makes them toxic/actively treating abuse as romance.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)"I want to write a fic where dead character did not die" "GO FOR IT!"
"I want to write self-indulgent character/reader" "Hooray!"
"I want to write these characters who aren't together in canon meeting in a coffeeshop and also they have mpreg together and knotting dicks" "Shine on you crazy diamond!"
"I want to write these two characters who don't touch dicks in canon, touching dicks" "YES YES YES!"
"I want to write these two characters who have a bad relationship in canon as having a good relationship" "... WHOA WHOA WHOA lets not go crazy here! Please fill out this twelve page disclaimer, in triplicate, that you're 100% aware of the exact level of canon badness and prove to a jury of your peers that you are not romanticizing it!"

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)I have no problem with people writing fluffy fic about a toxic ship, but I don't understand it. If you are writing a fluffy story about these characters and their relationship, then it isn't these characters. It is an original fic that just happens to have characters with the same name as characters from the show.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 12:08 am (UTC)(link)You can kind of apply that to anything though? I've seen the "It might as well be original fic" said about pretty much every fic trope, from non-canon pairings to wildly AU stuff. Fic's pretty personal on what details are going to make or break it for you.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 06:21 am (UTC)(link)I read fic because I love the characters and/or the world and want more of them/it. I love to see the characters in different situations from the show and see how they would react. Sometimes that's a romance. Sometimes it's a fix-it fic. Sometimes it's an AU where the characters face a different situation than they are currently in. I also love to see different explorations of the world they are in. If neither the world nor the characters are the same, how is it related to the Canon at all? In this instance, how is a happy high school teacher named Walt meeting a younger man named Jesse in a coffee shop at all a Breaking Bad fanfic?
