NYART but knowing how many asian countries are misogynistic as all hell and in some ways even FURTHER back in terms of general perception of women - and I say this as an asian guy - OP's suggestion is not going to make anything better for anyone

China is going to be so happy, because oh LOOK, the US lost like HALF ITS POPULATION and all of its military top brass and a lot of its politicians, and whatever you might think of a lot of straight white guys occupying those roles, removing them all at once is just asking for Asia or the Middle East to happily take advantage.

for all the talk of systematic this and race equality that, it's funny how the buzzword slingers always forget an entire eastern hemisphere exists.

Plus like ALL THE WARS that would probably break out immediately; the threat of US military intervention is more or less what's keeping the South China Sea from being actively fought over right now - if that's removed I'd actually just assume a lot of smaller countries are going to be immediately fucked. And the level of general upheaval from some of the world's richer countries losing that much of their working force is just going to fuck all the poorer countries right up too - they actually have LESS resources to deal with something like that happening.

That and the US balance also keeping a general peace between China/North Korea/South Korea/Japan. You can ABSOLUTELY bet that China would happily be like oh look hello there Korean Peninsula that is totally our right, we have a lot of people, we could sure use some tribute like we got in the past, WHY NOT LET US RECLAIM YOU also ps Japan who fucked us in the past, WE TOTALLY HAVENT FORGOTTEN :DDDDDDD

The world would unquestionably be worse of in terms of immediate impact, and probably considering the types of guys LEFT, not really much happier for the women with them.

imagining the economic upheaval is making me both lol and cringe at the same time. imagine the world stock markets on the day that suddenly all the straight white cis men disappear. China's might be the only one that survives since it's basically fake and government-run anyway, which only makes this scenario worse

militant islam would have a field day in europe, saying it was the work of god smiting down western civilization too. with something like that happening for real, a whole lot of people would start to believe it's true. now you have a war with china on one side and radical islamists on the other. it would not be a good time for women, minorities, or gays

obviously straight white cismen are not whiteknights who shield those groups from worse groups or anything, that's not what i'm trying to imply. just that wiping out such a gigantic group of anybody is going to have serious worldwide consequences

No one is saying straight white cismen are amazing but the thing is 'does removing a not amazing thing make everything else better' well NO, because there are other things that are JUST AS BAD out there, if not worse, and if you open up a power vacuum which there will be, it'll get filled by lots of rubbish

For what it's worth, I agree with you completely. People in the west sure do like to overlook misogyny and imperialism when it's being done by non-western countries, though.

To be fair I dont think they give it a pass as much as entirely have no idea any of this exists. :/ Which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't go around yelling at people to Educate Themselves about the Imperialistic Past of America or something like that's the only thing that ever happened.

(Also living in Southeast Asia, America was honestly PRETTY FINE as far as colonial rulers went, China and the Netherlands on the other hand...)

True, so true. I do wonder how much of it is and how much is willful ignorance and how much is a failing on part of the North American education system. I mean, a lot of people complain that American and Canadian schools don't focus enough on atrocities committed by the American and Canadian governments, especially against our indigenous populations, but seems like they don't really focus much on atrocities committed by non-European countries in general. I've met a disturbing number of university-educated adults (from both American and Canada) who had never heard of the Rape of Nanking, or the Farhud, or the Armenian genocide, and even some relatively recent events like the Rwandan genocide.

It's fucking scary how widespread this sort of ignorance is, but it also explains all the people on tumblr who unironically reblog posts saying shit like "the world would be better if there was no europe/white ppl then all the poc would live in peace and harmony uwu"

I think most people don't really look at the wider / overall context much? Sometimes it seems like people are lacking perspective - I mean none of us would say (I believe, anyway) that WHITE MEN ARE AMAZING or THEY'RE ALL THAT'S STOPPING THE WORLD FROM CHAOS or whatever, that's bullshit and I don't think that at all. Rather, remove ANY group that has a lot of power and control over stuff and you'll have chaos. Take away all Chinese men and Russia would be like oh goodbye Chinese military, hello free land!

The solution to addressing a power imbalance isn't to get rid of the stronger party immediately and suddenly, it's to empower other people more and/or change the status quo.

It's like, was the Cold War good? Arguably no, but the END of it resulted in a huge spike in OPEN war and escalation of conflicts that had previously not happened due to the two big powers metaphorically sitting on people. Removing those power players just meant all the smaller ones had free rein to go after each other instead without worrying about intervention or escalating international tensions since it'd be a 'domestic issue' or 'civil war' (see: Srebrenica massacre, also Rwanda and endless debates over what constituted a humanitarian crisis, etc.).

A lack of perspective is definitely a huge factor.

^ This, I would argue, is the most reasonable position to take, but changing the status quo requires mass organized effort by people who actually know what they're doing and have a good grasp of how the world works. Unfortunately, that's something that seems to be beyond the scope of a lot of modern social activism - or at least, what passes for "activism" on the internet. It's much easier to make cutesy historically inaccurate posts on your blog that inadvertently glorify non-western imperialism and ignore the political realities of, uh, everywhere outside North America & western Europe I guess.

NAYRT--I'd say a lot of it is just a lack of education. Every world history class I ever took stalled out right at the end of WWII. It was though the last 55 years (I graduated high school in 2001) were an ahistorical void. And that was the world history classes that didn't proceed as though non-western countries were fixed points in time or theme parks, like Egypt=pyramids, Cleopatra, King Tut, sand, and camels. Maybe it's gotten better in the last fifteen years. But I doubt it.

Ahahaha I will never forget the look on my 5th-grade teacher's face when 10-yr-old me asked what's happening in Egypt now, and if they're still building pyramids. She was like a deer under the headlights, I wonder if she legit didn't know about what was going on there in current events at the time or if she did know and was just totally unprepared to explain modern Egypt to a class of 10-yr-olds.

Seriously though, this is a problem. No wonder the world is so fucked.

I'd say both of those statements are accurate.

On that noted, I have noticed that when Muslim and ex-Muslim feminists speak out against misogyny in their cultures they are called traitors by white western feminists, but I rarely see these same white westerners screaming at Asian feminists for talking about misogyny in Asian cultures. Weird double standard there.

???? Not sure what you mean. With Asian / Eastern countries, quite a few have a lot of Muslims or a heavily Islamic-influenced government. Malaysia is currently going through a lot of stuff with Islamic parties gaining political power and introducing some really stupid legislation, and places like Indonesia have their own issues. From personal experience with the culture there I can say that I've seen them to be misogynistic as all hell.

Also I'm actually ex-Muslim and part of why I cut myself off from the community in GENERAL after leaving the religion is due to the ridiculous amount of bigotry in general that I was dealing with. They don't get a free pass here.

Plus being Muslim has like fuck all to do with races. It's much more of a cultural issue than anything. A lot of Chinese people are Buddhist, but criticizing Buddhism isn't being racist against Chinese people, that's just ridiculous. Especially considering not all TYPES of Muslims are the same, that there are different sects of Islam and so on - things that apply to different places.
