Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
diet_poison is not here today (hopefully off doing fun things) so I thought I would post the book club poll today:

http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=57cf524fe4b01cede563314f

I strongly encourage you to vote! It's both fun and easy.

Thank you, nonny.

I don't like the current results too much, I was hoping for spooky fiction.

Yeah, I would definitely encourage people to vote for Dracula or Then There Were None, personally.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Agatha Christie novel is a stealth troll given the original UK title of the book.

I think people genuinely like Agatha Christie and to be frank I'm not even sure what you'd do with that, as a troll.

I personally happen not to like Christie, so I voted for Dracula. But it would be a fine choice.

I'm probably just being paranoid, but you know how it is with trolls around here these days.

I'm the one who suggested Dracula, so I appreciate the vote :)

Maybe they're saving it for next month.

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. But we won't have the same contenders for November and there are some really good ones on the list. I guess, I'll just have to suggest a different spooky book next time.

They can't let this chance to read Andrea Dworkin slip away?

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I swear I have nothing against the Dworkin book. It sounds interesting. But I'm a sucker for seasonally appropriate reading.

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I have nothing against it, I just feel like I'd rather read fiction for this book club than non fiction. I think it's more conducive to interesting discussion.

Perhaps suggest it to dietpoison? That sounds like a good thing to me!

I thought Dworkin was there as a joke. Was shocked to see it leading after I submitted my vote. I never thought of FSers as the "sex is bad unless it's incest" type.

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, well, I don't know what's in the book. I haven't read any Dworkin yet. But from the short synopsis I've read, it seems to be about the effect of pornography on society.

I don't think we had any joke nominations yet. Even the people who wanted to read that Trump book some months ago seemed to be serious about it.

Personally I refuse to believe The Turner Diaries was a serious post, or if it was, that it wasn't still intended to be upsetting/offensive.

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
With all respect for Dworkin, I kind of suspect people have voted for it for reasons other than a serious desire to read it and engage with it.

Re: Book Club Poll

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I suggested Dworkin, and tbh I wasn't expecting my suggestion to be taken seriously but I'm happy that it was. I've been reading Dworkin lately, and found that she's not the caricature she's been made out to be. I think the reason she has such a bad reputation is because she said a lot of things that have been taken out of context and misinterpreted. (For example; she NEVER said "all sex is rape".)

New plot twist! Now Dracula is in the lead. We should start a betting pool for the book club polls.

Thank you anon! I appreciate this!

I was indeed off doing fun things. I was playing YGO all day in a regional tournament :)
